Hi all

without a big old search on the internet, and through the various posts that will get me wanting an a new V8 M3, and cutting through he marketing blurb from BMW, can some actual E92 V8 M3 owners tell me what they get for

1. Average MPG
2. Best MPG on a run, i.e. 75 MPH on a motorway
3. How many miles do you get between fill ups

I ask as simply put, I thought I could live with my old V8 S4, but although the internet told me 25 MPG was achievable, it just wasn't, and I averaged 20MPG, now this isn't a lot of difference I know, but on a daily driver it was loosing 50 miles per fill up, which meant I was unable to run the car for a week with one tank of fuel.

My old 3.6 996 did 25 MPG, my old E46 did 24.5 MPG and my oldest E36 M3 did 27.4. so it was possible to use them as a daily driver.

Any actual real world experiences would be really appreciated, as I think if I went to a 335I based purely on MPG's being easier to swallow, I may be a bit unhappy when a v8 M3 pulls up next too me.

cheers

John

20mpg is a sensible number to work with.

For a manual from the obc.

Average is 17/18

Steady Run 24 is the best I've had to date.

220-250 miles from 62 litre tank.

15 is possible in city traffic. All depends on how the type of driving, take 3-4mpg away from your E46 M3 figure and you have your answer IMHO.

Around town, with a careful throttle + Auto-stop/start, and avoiding unnecessary braking and acceleration, I can get 270miles (indicated) to a tank.

When I drove to Norway, I managed to get about 370miles (indicated) on the motorway, from a tank of V Power.

On a mix of driving in north Wales and then driving all the way back to London, I managed:

On a track - barely 90 miles to a tank biggrin.

Mine has averaged 22.9 over 117K miles. Lot of motorway miles. Around town it is much worse.

On a run with 97 octane or better it can get up to 26/27 mpg and will do around 320 miles on a tank. Would do better but I can't keep to 75mph. Usually around 85.

I'm also at 22.9 but only over 44K miles.

I don't "mind" the poor economy but I do wish the tank was bigger, I'd love not to have to fill up every day when commuting down south frown

Mines showing 21.4mpg thats all A/B roads & some town work, seems crazy that I've done 2.5k miles in it but not been on a motorway yet with it.

Had to laugh yesterday I put £20 of super in it drove 3 miles & the low fuel warning pinged on, I think your just best filling the tank up!

I agree, it's the constant fuel full ups that got me on the S4.

DCT, over 7000 miles I've averaged 24mpg, on a run at 70-80mph 27-28mpg, yesterday I drove back home from London (220 miles) and mooched along at 60-65mph and averaged 30mpg.

Most I've done on a tank is 350miles with 20-30 remaining.

But work on a worst case of 20mpg.

The DCT certainly looks quite a bit more fuel efficient than the manual looking at your figures. thumbup

20MPG... I drove to Southend and back at 60 mph as an experiment and achieved 30MPG (when I first got the car)...

In my 330i I only achieve 25.9 as a average. It is a early e90 and I know the lci versions were more frugal yet at the same time became more troublesome. If mpg is more of a want than smiles per miles I think a 335i is the best option.

335i may not be an m3 but its still a great car!

Compared to my old manual it's much better on a run.

That seems almost half decent...... do we know if efficiency has improved with the later models??

Its got stop start which helps in traffic and I always try to use Vpower, but you can get 20mpg without trying round town, you have to try to get decent mpg.

I'm on my 2nd tank of fuel since collecting my E90 on Tuesday.

2011 DCT so it has start stop, on the run up from the dealer on Tuesday it was showing 28.4 mpg at a steady 75mph.

It's dropped to 25.9, when I bought it I knew the fuel economy wouldn't be great, however it has surprised me by actually being rather fuel efficient for what it is.

I've managed 380 miles on a tank, cruising at 70-75 across europe to nürburgring.
think that works out as 27 or so.

On board computer reads 16mpg at the minute as the last couple of tanks have just been around and in/out of london.

I don't care though, such a fantastic engine.

My old M3 Evo saloon did 27.5mpg over 24K miles and my mapped M3 Evo coupe 27.7 over 40K miles so similar to yours; the N54 335i I have now = 25.9 over 8K miles when standard and 27.7 since being Evolved 19k miles ago.
