Time to get the winters off the M5 and have some fun. Its only the rears I need, there is a huge spread in price and opinion accross the available options so wanted to hear recent experiences.

This link sums up most of the current options at what seems to be about the best prices going:

http://www.oponeo.co.uk/tyre-finder/car-summer-tyr...

Anybody had good experiences with Kumho/Kalken/Toyo? Dunlops are 220 and up the prices go all the way to 356 for Pirellis. From past experience tells me that price means nothing, I obviously want to spend only as much as I need to get a good tyre and no more.

Impossible really to make an educated decision so keen to hear owners recommendations.

Cheers

Not sure what size the rears are on an M5, but I got a set of M6 rears (Michelin Pilot Supersports) for £250 each a few months back. Still going for £260 each on Camskill today

The rears on the M5 are 285/35/19, think I read somewhere the M6 is 275/35/19 or maybe thats for the e61!? You happy with the tyres - what did they replace?

Cheers

M6 rears are 285/35/19. I thought the M5 were a bit smaller but maybe not. Are your wheels the original M5 wheels or the M6 style ones?

Very happy with the tyres, especially given the price they were. They replaced Falken FK452s which were on it when I got the car and were pretty much out of tread.

The Michelins grip a lot better in the wet, but I'm not sure what the Falkens would've been like from new.

I don't think you'll be disappointed :-)

Although I'm running 275/35/18's, I've put 15K miles on Kumho KU31's and am overall happy with the grip they provided. Shame they are now nearing their wear limit. The fronts show very little wear though, so maybe it's my driving style wink

I had Kumho Ku31's on my 535d . I would not buy them again and would never consider them on my m5 .. wet weather grip was terrible . They did last long however .

Mine has the M6 alloys on her so same 285/35/19. Seems the Falken FK452's are quite well reviewed, tempted to go for a pair of them for the rear.

Michelin Supersport 275 is actually slightly bigger than PS3 285
Supersport grips a lot better, once they're heated up they grip a lot better than the PS3 or PS2.

There are better tyres on the market. The Falken feels ok at first, but once it gets around 50% wear grip falls away quite quickly.

As others have said, the Pilot Super Sport is the ultimate tyre at the moment, and the extra mileage should somewhat offset the extra purchase cost.

Thanks for the push Jon, I just ordered a pair of the Michelin Pilots through eBay for 280each. I resisted the temptation on the cheaper offerings smile

I give a big thumbs up to the Super Sports - just posted elsewhere, first set on my F10 would have gone 22-23,000 miles if I hadn't got some damage from a pot-hole. So although pretty expensive to buy, I bet that cost per 1,000 mile starts to become more comparable to cheaper tyres.

Thats pretty amazing mileage, its a win - win if they are one the best performers and last so long.

I will post back after I have them fitted up and have had some fun in MDM mode.
