I have an E39 M5 as it stands at the moment it has a full main dealer history up to around 100k, its last service was an inspection 2 by an independant last June. I bought the car in November and its due an oil service next but its done so few miles since its actually still got 4 green lights still illuminated. The only reason I'm asking is that its coming up 12 months since it was last serviced.

So what I'm wondering is do I just simply change the oil and filter and leave the lights alone, or take it back to the main dealer for an oil service (bearing in mind that it hasnt actually got a full main dealer history anymore).

Thoughts please!

Get a local independent specialist to check it over, do the oil and filter and reset the service indicator. Or don't worry about it until you've done more miles as I guess you've not done many since the inspection 2.

Thanks for that perhaps best to have the oil changed but let the lights carry on. Sods law, second green light went out this weekend so were down to three left!

Hi

In my e36 M3, the service intervals were as per the indicator, or 24 months, whichever came first. Are you just wanting to keep the nice and fresh with an "interim" oil change? If so, use an independent but ask them not to reset the indicator.

Ah really? 24 months I just assumed it was every 12 months. What I should of done is look in the manual...!
I found the service intervals much shorter mileage wise on my e36 m3 compared to the M5
