Turns out I have an aftermarket exhaust (e39 m5)
Discussion
Guys
looking for a bit of advice. After getting the car detailed it turned out my pipes are aftermarket kit. I'd assumed, as the dealer never said or listed them as aftermarket, that from AUC the exhaust would be stock.
My insurance currently states stock and I am going to now have to test whether they can continue to insure or not but I'm thinking of getting a stock set of pipes anyway.
The current pipes are the Miltek catback system, not sure if it includes their 100cels or not but would need to check.
What is the opinion on the Miltek system? Is it worth keeping as I had hoped to keep the car stock but had been playing around witht he idea of some valve operated cut outs. Part of me is thinking sell the system, with the money I could then get a stock system installed. Is the stock system boomy? Also is there any real market for aftermarket exhausts for the e39 in this day and age?

How can insurance companies expect 2nd hand car owners to know what's modified?
How do you it hasn't been remapped?
isn't there something about in good faith which can be countered by ignorance is not an excuse. How do you it hasn't been remapped?
Either way the good faith clause now kicks in as I now know I do have an aftermarket system. I guess I can call, ask how much it would cost to add an aftermarket system if they refuse I simply take business elsewhere than risk finding it cancelled!
I will be telling them but they are anti any mods. They have to give you permission before you get any work done as they don't like anything but stock. Now part way through I have to tell them I just found out, sure they will buy that so instead will enquire about it and if they say no I will have to go elsewhere.

You must have quite a nice noise as well! Something the standard system definitely lacks to an extent.
It is a nice noise on throttle but it can be a little boomy, as all can be. But, and its the child in me, I believe if you are going to release some noise you might as well release it all. I used to run a chevvy 6.3 with a shock and awe soundtrack which I could make quiet with a simple insertion of a metal plate. I think I will keep this Miltek and look at introducing some cut outs as once you've had a v8 opened up its a noise to behold.kayzee said:
Aviva increased my insurance for putting a front splitter on, and new wheels... but not for a complete aftermarket exahust system! Work that one out.
Splitter = handling modification = more likely driver likes to drive "enthusiastically" on the road. Wheels = visible increase in appeal = increased perception of risk of theft.Gassing Station | M Power | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
