Guys,
I'm just trying to sell my Z4M and I've had no interest other than one fraudster. I love the car and am getting rid of it as I have a small family and to many toys. Any advise on what I need to do to get rid of it would be great.

Thanks in advance and apologies if I'm not meant to post in here.

Looks nice and a reasonable price, really like the interior. As with a lot of vehicles, you need to wait for the right buyer or be prepared give it away. It can be a long wait, just be patient.

to be honest the photos aren't great. They look like they were taken with a phone camera, as they're not sharp, and for example the one of the mileage is really dark and difficult to read.

Some initial thoughts:

Photos could be better.

I'd expect more info on servicing. You just say "full service". I'd like to know when, by whom, when's the next one due, etc etc.

Some more info on expensive consumables - tyres, brakes etc.

And some short description of the car (rather than just a list of features) so that you actually come across as an enthusiast.

Link your PH profile to your ad so that prospective buyers can see you're a genuine PHer.

And then see what happens. And maybe it needs to have a price starting with £14... rather than £15...

Is a buyers market.
Your car looks great, it will sell.
Randomly both me and my business partner have just sold our Z4M's. Both 06 plates, his had done 20k miles and he got 15k for it, mine had done 55000 miles and I got 12k. Both under BMW warranty. He had 8 people trying to view it within 24 ours and sold it to Sytner over the phone, I had 2 people on the phone within minutes and 2 hours later it was sold.
Now wait for the barrage of "you sold them to cheap" but I have had several of them. I had bought it 9 months earlier for 12k. Everybody wants a bargain. If you are buying on just get the money off the next one!

Agree, better photos needed and more servicing/work done specifics.

Detail the exact servicing regime i.e. (also include consumables and brake fluid change (should be every two years)

Run in service - 1200 miles DD/MM/YYYY (by XXX)
Oil Service - 12000 miles DD/MM/YYYY (by XXX)
Inspection I - 24000 miles DD/MM/YYYY (by XXX)
Next service Due in XXXXX miles

When were the tyres and brakes last changes include depth of tyres across the tread (three readings) i.e. Front N/S 4mm, 5mm , 5mm.

Using the last numbers of the VIN it is possible to list the exact spec from the BMW website, there is info on the web for this available i can't find it atm.

Take pictures of all wheels, interior especially the known wear areas i.e. drivers bolster, steering whel and gear knob.

Then it just depends on price smile

I think you need to personalise the ad much more.

It's an enthusiast car right - and enthusiasts like to read - you need to try and bond with the seller before you've even spoken to them.
You ad needs to inspire confidence and trust and from the pics and the layout of the description it doesn't really do that at the moment.

Spend some time getting some more pics in great light and writing a proper recount of the time in your ownership.
Include a pic of all the documentation if you have it.

Imagine you're writing a personal ad, you wouldn't say 'bloke with head, usual limbs and digits, can walk and talk, has own teeth'.

Basically, you need to SELL the car, not just advertise it.

The above is all true.

The biggest factor is price by far, it's too expensive and this comes from some who's sold a Z4M coupe privately, so have a fair idea

Every time I've tried to sell a car privately, many of the comments on the forums from owners have been "it's a good price and you'll have no trouble selling", which has been wrong. Owners always think there car is worth more than it is, it's not until you try and sell you understand it isn't that attractive to buyers. My cars were always to a very high standard in all departments, but I couldn't get anyone to even view it.

As a private seller your car has to be cheaper than dealers for the same car most of the time, most people would rather buy from a dealer because they need to sell there current car and/or finance there new car, so your pool of buyers with cash is a lot smaller.

My advice is, take some better pics, list the service history, list any extra work you've had done and drop the price if you want to shift it quicker

Good luck

The advert smacks of weekend trader/flipper. Everything about it just says look elsewhere to me.

I'll qualify, I am not in the market for such a car but I do buy many cars as I am like a kid and get bored quickly.

If I am looking at a private car as soon as my "weekend trader" alarm is tripped I will walk away. As silly as that might sound it is a case of to me I am now looking at a car someone has bought to quickly flip around whilst not offering me any of the perceived benefits (SOGA etc) of buying from a legitimate trader. I am also dead against giving anyone money to make as an income that is not taxed.

Your advert, photos all suggest that.

As an enthusiast I am sure you have some shots of the car in use which would help build a, err, picture. Also has others have said, if you want to sell you need to get the price to a point it will sell. Don't look at what others are asking look at what others are selling at. If there are 10 cars at the same price, advertise yours for 250 or 500 less but set your bottom price you will take and accept that if that price is too high you won't sell it soon.

I started a price slide of car prices for a certain low volume marque. Mine was one of the first to sell privately and I sold at a good 2k less than what others were advertised at as I had been fed up with it hanging around like a bad smell. I took the hit but got the cash. This then caused the others to slump prices until the market found its true value which was at what I sold at.

Keep your enthusiasm in the car for selling it but detatch any feeling of value or worth against others out there as it comes down to cash, what are you prepared to take for it.

Thanks guys,
Ill take your comments on board and revise accordingly. I've only owned the car for 7 months (covered 3k miles in that period) and paid top dollar from Stratstone so not really in a position to drop the price ridiculously to sell as it owes me to much.

I will update the advert with new pics, service history and see what I can afford to drop it to.

You state your reason for sale as being that you have too many toys and small family. That cannot have been unforeseen seven months ago - any other reason for sale? Not trying to be critical...just stating the first question that struck me...

Be patient, and don't believe the hype about it being a buyer's market - yes these are unusual cars with a big tax/fuel bill, and therefore there is a limited number of people who want to buy one. Dealers experience the same issues and fully expect to sit on them for 6 months, but someone will come along and snap it up for decent money eventually

It's £250 more than this one from BMW!!!

http://www.approved.bmw.co.uk/bmwuk/bmwauc/details...

Sorry but it's way way overpriced - someone buying privately will want a big discount on what they can get a BMW Approved car from a dealer for.

Sorry but that's the truth.

True, but I know which one people will buy at that price. The one from the shiny dealer with the 12 month warranty and someone to shout at if it goes pop. Like you did seven months ago. Generally people buy from dealers because it makes them feel safe. Dealers also offer trade ins and finance, which you don't.

Sorry I know it's unpalatable, but it sounds like you overpaid at Stratstone and now you're stuck with it. If you bought on finance then generally you're under water for the first couple of years at least.

I actually looked at this ad.

I am kind of on the market for a Z4MC, not yet 100% decided, but just looking.

Right away the description put me off, not enough in it. I just had a quick look at it, then clicked next. If there was more i would have waited aroudn and read a bit more.

Also the photo's aint great, i love the way the back looks, take a photo of that, rear 3/4 too.

The the photo of the front with the sunlight, is pretty bad, makes the paint look a little dull i think.

I agree values of these are sensitive to mileage...but the AUC car does have warranty which you cannot offer!!

Have you looked at the CAP value?

Warranty on these things is totally unnecessary - they are not complicated, and are probably the most reliable car BMW has ever made

True, but if something goes bang in a big way it's a LOT of money. I wouldn't run one without a warranty.
