We all know what happened to E30 M3 prices, gone are the days when you could buy one for £6k. I have been keeping an eye on the classifieds, ebay etc for the last 18 months and have it just dawned on me that there are hardly any 3.2 evo coupes for sale. Plenty of convertibles, pretty much every single one. Does anyone think the E36 M3 will rise in price and if so is now the time to buy one?

To expand my current fleet I would consider either a 3.0 or a 3.2 but I am also pondering the e34 M5... both are probably at the bottom now and both will go up but by how much is anyone's guess.

I don't think they'll go quite as crazy as E30 Prices but wouldn't be surprised if they start to creep up, as always especially for the desirable low millage example with good history.

It's also worth noting that E30's that sell for strong money have generally had a lot of money spent on them. I bought my old E30 for £5500 and sold for £19500, doubt there was much profit in it but nor did it cost much to run in the 10 Years I owned it.

So I wouldn't buy an E36 as an investment as such but an increase in value may offset the running costs.

I've been saying that for a while about the E34, and finally took the plunge recently on an Avus 3.8 5-speed. Absolutely love it, and at some point I firmly believe the gap to the E28 M5 will have to narrow

A decent E36 M3 is a safe enough place too financially I would think. They'll never make E30 M3 money, but should rise steadily if bought well I'd say. Outside of GTs (esp LHD ones), Imolas and the like of ACS & Alpina B8s, I'd quite fancy a clean & original 3.0L in Dakar
