Eastern BMW Edinburgh - Good, bad, indifferent?
Discussion
Hi guys,
I placed a deposit on an AUC M6 last week. Car has just come in on part-exchange with the guys at Eastern BMW Edinburgh.
Anybody had any dealings with this dealer? I've heard a few reports about them (all being good), just wanted to get some further thoughts/experiences from fellow PHers.
My first opinions are positive - I've been ensured the car has undergone an 'extensive' AUC inspection (new brakes all round, clutch/flywheel inspection, paintwork prep etc). I know this dealer also have a 'Dedicated M Power Division' - is this really a significantly better department than those of a normal franchise dealer? What are people's experiences of AUC prepared cars?
Any views/opinions would be apprecaited chaps.

Heya
Having ordered a lease M3 LE500 conv with Greg there I found them to be really knowledgeable and helpful. My local dealer couldn't even order the car given its near the end of the production run.
Delivery isn't until September so not dealt with that bit yet but so far would very much recommend

I almost bought a pre-owned car from them about 3 months ago, went for the test drive, had another similar car also available near by that I wanted to have a look at so went away for a couple of hours and returned to find that in my absence they had sold the car to another couple. No issue there, thats what happens and I would have expected that to be the end of it but not as far as Eastern BMW were concerned. They ushered us over to a desk, continued to feed us cake and coffee and (this is the best bit) proceeded to not only search for similar cars on Autotrader, but also ring the garages and even went of to the back office to confirm the specs of the models they had found!
Now I don't know if that sounds like much but this was on a Saturday and the showroom was genuinely packed and this guy spent just over 2 hours adamantly stating that he was going to find us a good car, and he did! We test drove it the next day and paid the money the following week. He made nothing out of this other than a good impression. The funny thing is that I have worked in sales for 10 years, ranging from Harrods department store to currently being a Mortgage Consultant, so I am usually very cynical of any sales person but as far as I am concerned these guys were all just very genuine, the whole showroom had a nice vibe and everyone that worked there was very positive.
So I can't tell you what they are like to buy from but with my brief experience I would happily purchase my next car from them.

Just had photos through from Eastern of the finally prepped M6. It looks a very clean car, but my major fear is as I thought it would be - the alloys have been refurbished and sprayed completely silver!! I know this may sound trivial, but this is a big pet hate of mine. It ruins the look of the car completely. As an M specialist I was hoping that they would have refubed them to the original polished finish. Supposed to be picking the car up this weekend, but I know it won't be ready now. These polished refurbishments take a good while i seem to recall.
Any thoughts on this matter? Any leg to stand on with Eastern?

Depends on if they've been refurbed before. The polished face is created by cutting metal from the face with a diamond cut tool and there's only so many times you can do this before theres not enough metal to safely remove. The time and cost is a bit more so either they've been done before or they're cutting corners to save a few quid this time imho. I'm sure they're forged (read expensive!) too so can't see them looking at a replacement set. Edit just to add - Lepsons and various other places can do the diamond cut finish for you, might be worth giving them a call?
