Hi

I dropped my car into BMW Battersea to get the M Performance Sport brake pads fitted

front part number: 34 11 2 283 764
rear part nuber: 34 21 2 283 366

I got a phone call from the dealer, saying that if I fit those I'd need to change the brake disc sizes, as apparently BMW changed the brake disc sizes during the life of the E92 M3?

Mine is not a competition pack, it is a standard EDC, DCT, 2010 E92 M3.

The standard pads don't hold up on track.

They stay they don't do an uprated brake pad for the larger discs... and want an extra boatload of money for fitting new disks too

Can anyone confirm on the brake disc sizes?

Here's a post on a US forum, doesn't state the sizes have changed but does mention a change in part number post 01/2010. http://www.m3post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=6983...

I had Pagid pads, new fluid and uprated brake lines fitted yesterday by Munich Legends http://www.munichlegends.co.uk/ , they'll know of any changes (and are probably half the price of BMW Battersea!)

I've seen this discussed on a few forums.I know for sure that you can just change to performance pads without changing the discs, as a friend of mine has been doing it for a while.Only thing is BMW won't do it for you.Maybe get the pads and take it somewhere else.

Thanks both.

Good to know.

the Master Tech @ BMW Battersea is on the phone to BMW in Germany to figure out a solution... but good to know worst case is I can ask them to sell me the pads, and I fit them myself later.

I think the chaps name was Ian.
Michael on the service desk was liasing with me.

Anyway, common sense (almost) prevailed.

The Master tech confirmed that the disc sizes are the same, but compounds are different. BMW haven't certified the M Performance pads with the newer discs.
However they would (if I signed a disclaimer) be happy to fit those pads to my car.

Unfortunately then it turned out they didn't have the pads in stock, so could not proceed.

Going to pick the car up this evening, drive to Germany tomorrow and probably will get Tom Schirmer to fit some decent pads to the car on Monday or Tuesday whilst I'm in the US on business, before I get back for Destination Nürburgring for the end of the week.
