M3's at the nurburgring
Discussion
Just visited the nurburgring - wow what a place! Great few days just looking at cars (and the odd lap) - basically the track is just full of m3's and 911's!
I was surprised to see how much faster and louder the e90's are compared to the e46's (which are still clearly fast). Anyone doubting the performance of an m3 needs to go watch some laps of the Nurburgring!
I really want an e90 m3 now but I hope it sounds as good as these did (they may have been modded) - these were even burbling / popping when pulling out onto roundabouts! Sounded unbelievable!

Some of the track prepped E46 M3 driven now by the locals are plenty quick trust me - there is a Phoenix Yellow one, which is actually quicker than most E9x... In the hands of the same driver though, I agree - the E9x is noticeably quicker on the straights...I was surprised to see how much faster and louder the e90's are compared to the e46's (which are still clearly fast). they get louder the more you use them.
Mine has done almost 25,000 miles now, and when I got out just after starting it up yesterday I was surprised at how noisy it was.
When I drove to the Nürburgring yesterday, I went through a couple of tunnels, and it was plenty noisy enough.
One thing to bear in mind when watching an M3 on track is a lot of the noise you'll hear as it approaches is the induction noise, which you only get under load.
I've not spent much time looking into it, but I've noticed with mine, when I'm giving it beans its much noisier in car, than when just accelerating smoothly - does it have a flap that opens to its airbox like on the CSL?

I think the m3 sounds really good stock a lovely balance between subtle V8 burble and induction roar, one of the few mainstream cars that actually gives you noticable induction roar.
Pretty easy to beef up the exhaust I have a Tubi rumure I bought second hand for £750 inc fitting and that sounds like thunder plus you still get the induction roar higher up the range.
