Hi,
I'm thinking about stepping into a Gen 2 E93 M3 for c£30-35k, but with the next gen m3 due next year, I was wondering if it would be a massive error?!
Where do you see it being priced in 18mths time?
(And also what are the benefits of the facelifted version over the earlier DCT models?)

E46's were holding pretty well a few years ago, then the new M3 came out. Once they got to 2 years old or so, the E46's bombed pretty hard, i dont think they dropped too much right away.

I was caught by this frown

Yeah for the first couple of years not too much but year 3 and onwards once the cars start hitting the used market in numbers will begin to push the prices down.

I bought a 4yr old E46 M3 and lost £10k in depreciation in 3yrs.

I think if you can pick up a nice example and look after it it won't drop as much. Good history, low mileage, options, nice colour, etc. There will always be people that prefer the older shape. If you put the miles on, your never going to get anymore than the average.

When the first cars hit 3 years old and then come out of BMW warranty (unless you pay the £1000 a year) is when the big depreciation hit comes in.

I think the next gen M3 will comfortably be a £60k car with any kind of spec so not sure how many people will be trading up....

Hundreds, so plenty of used E92 M3's will become available.

I bought a 2011 e90 M3 with 3k otc, ran it for 1yr, then got back exactly what I paid for it! I kn ow thats not your question, but im still grinning.

Of course it'll depreciate, just make sure you are paying back mnore than the projected depreciation over the loan period. For example. £35k less say a £5k deposit on inital purchase would equate to £891pm @ 7% (Av highstreet APR). You would pay back £21,384 over a 3 year period. As long as the NA V8 M3 doesnt drop by more than 40% you'll still be even. If it holds its value better , which I suspect it will being such a globally respected product, you will have a bit of equity in the car after 3 years.
