I thought I would post a few pictures, why not eh? I bought this about 7 months ago now and I absolutely love it! Although its a bit quiet - tempted with the muffler delete!

Lovely.

Make sure you do a bit of homework on the muffler delete. Yes the car's a bit quiet as standard, but you don't want to introduce drone into the cabin.

Thanks guys! I viewed quite a few cars and although she's a bit leggy, 122k now!, this one drove far better than the others I looked at and seemed to be in far better condition over the ones with "80k or so..."

Hi - the car looks nice

Is it silver stone blue? Looks like it in the photos

Is it a y reg face lifted one on a private plate?

Looks a lot like my old one..... I sold it with 91k on it a few years ago - still have the original sales invoice and sadly the laughable price I got as a sale to trade....

Enjoy it - one of the greats that car.

Cheers

Cheers trev, it's titanium silver actually low light and an iPhone camera as distorted the colour. She's actually on an 02 so quite late as far these go so not your old car!

Yeah quite fancying the muffler delete although I want to keep the oem exhaust tip look and make it so it can be put back to as BMW intended should I ever wish to

After being a passenger in an E39 M5 with muffler delete i concluded that that option would have been far too noisey & boomy for me. Only my opinion but i think the delete sounds horrible, don't like the tone. After driving one with the Evolve rear boxes i eventually went with the Eisenmann Sport & couldn't be more pleased. Although they don't look standard. I have had my original rear boxes sleeved & trial refitted so i know i can bolt them back on anytime if sell the car & then sell the Eisenmann's.

Goodluck with whatever you go for exhaust wise, hope you enjoy your M5.

I had the muffler delete for a bit and agree it is a bit too much for day to day duties. Ridiculous on a cold start as well, terrified my inlaws dog and my wife thought it was lightning/thunder outside (I can see this might also appeal). It's great when revved up but a bit too silly at normal revs (boomy at 2500). Go for something a bit more classy like the eisenmann or milltek if any of that is a concern...

Btw you have exactly the same colour/spec as me! Nice and subtle. Everyone at work just thinks I can't afford a new car and needed something sensible. I love it for that.

Is it really that bad? Pretty much everything I had read about it up to now had said it was fantastic! Hmm I could do with going in a car that's had the mod done I think...!

I know what you mean no one knows what it is which is brilliant as every Tom dick an Harry doesn't try and race me. I used to have a very nice 300zx before this and it was a nightmare. Attracted so much attention, I had an estoril blue e36 m3 Evo before that zed and even that attracted more attention than the m5!

Loads of M5's running around with the delete, i would try and have a run out in one. Put something up on the 5 series forum to see if someone near you you can have a meet up with.

You might like the noise of the delete, i don't but then i'm an old git of 43 !

Looks real nice mate, I wouldn't worry about the miles if the history is good. As for the muffler delete I would do it, sounds like a V8 should. I've mine done so I can put the original boxes back on but have never felt the need to do so and probaly never will. All the best with her.

Cheers chaps yeah I think I will try and see if I can listen to one in the flesh. I live in a quiet area full of old people... wouldn't want to risk any heart failure although most of them are probably deaf... I am 26 so still got a bit of "noise is good" mentality biggrin

Rod, where about's are you in the world? Not in the northwest are you? smile

I'm an even older git 46 and love the sound of muffler delete on mine.
Mind you I am a bit deaf.

Nice looking M5

The sound of the muffler delete is, IMO, a bit cheap; almost as if there's been a straight bit of pipe simply welded onto the midsection...

Proper offerings from Eisenmann et al sound far more sophisticated; but you do pay for the privilege.

Swings and roundabouts mon ami.

Really that rare? It does have the skibag option as well.

Other than that its only other options are the satnav/tv traffic master and motorolla V50 (still works much to my amusement!)

I did check its vin but that's all I can remember at the moment.

So does anyone with the muffler delete live near Lancaster or in the northwest at all? I have considered the "premium" aftermarket exhaust route and if I'm honest I think they are quite expensive for an exhaust. At the moment I would rather spend that kind of money on replacement OEM parts!

I always felt it was one of the more useful options but I would guess only about 20% of original purchasers went for it.

Very rare option, yes. My last LM blue car had folding rear seats and it took me forever to find one with this option.

There are drawbacks though. The car felt noticeably 'unhappy' with the rear seats folded; almost as if the chassis integrity relies on the residual strength of the seats in their upright position. The considerable creaking with them in place would imply this theory holds some water also.

In addition, there is horrendous buffeting from the sunroof if the rear seats are down. Sounds bizarre, but it is impossible to drive at more than 40mph with a load in the back and the roof open.

Nevertheless, it was a nice option to have and it makes the car far more practical if one happens to cart a bike around the place, for example.

The muffler delete is a must IMO. I had mine done and it sounds incredible! Virtually no drone or loss of refinement either, it's win-win! Go for it, you will not be disappointed. smile
