About to pull the trigger on a 6 x 23 (well i`m thinking of putting £6000 grand down instead of the £3900 to keep the montly costs down.) contract hire deal on a pretty much standard bar 20" wheels m5, monte carlo blue with silver interior. Just a couple of questions if anybody can help, just like to have clear in my mind of any hidden costs

Can`t seem to find service intervals, how many services would a m5 need during 2 years and 20,000miles of ownership? Would brake pads and discs last that long with moderate useage?

I know the combined cycle is 28mpg, but that`s dreaming. Would I be realistic to think I`d get early 20`s mpg. Most of my journeys are 7 miles to and from work with then weekend outings with the family

Test drive arranged for Saturday!!!!

Hope you don't mind me jumping on your post but I was about to ask some very similar questions, so thought one thread is better than two...

I'm considering the same deal also with 10k miles per year. So am also interested in the answers to your questions. As, yet I haven't added any extras. How much extra are you having to pay for 20" wheels? Are there any other 'must have extras'? I fancy split folding rear seats so I can get my bike in there but want to keep costs down unless there are any strong arguments for adding anything else.

After the running-in service (1,200 miles), I think that the next service is 15,000 miles or so, depending on how you drive.
Average mpg could be early 20s unless the 7 mile drive involves very heavy, slow moving traffic, in which you'll get about 18-19 mpg (or better if you use Start/Stop). If you're mostly using motorways, I'd expect high 20s.

The surround (& reversing assist) cameras are a must-have, IMHO - it's a big car and the cameras make it easy to park in confined spaces.
Sun protection glass is a must-have if you have young kids.

Just found out that the supplying dealers do the 1200 mile service for free, so just one service to pay for then

I`ve got the price now at £6000 down followed by 23 payments at £564.00 inc VAT. inc 20" wheels only. Might add sun protection glass and pay for that in the deposit.

So let's say I live down South and the dealer is way up North, I will have to use them for the first service if I want it FOC? If not then I guess I use the local dealer to service, need to find out the cost of this...?

Is that for 10k miles per year? Do you know how much extra the wheels cost per month?

Yes for 10k per year. Wheels work out to be approx cost divided by 29

What does the 6 x 23 bit mean?

Six payments followed by 23. Keep car for 24 months. The first six are your deposit/first months payment

Then doesn't that mean you are overpaying over the 24 months by an extra 5 months?

yes but that`s how contract hire works, the first month payment is normally either 3 or 6 payments or you can do 9 if you like. In turn it then effects you other payments bringing them up or lowering them

+1

Mine lives 95% of its life on the motorway and Skrambles figures are spot-on (I have broken 30mpg from time to time but that's when I'm in relaxed mode!).

high twenties if you are running downhill with the engine off.

I've never seen more than 22MPG from it. On average its 16-18 and that includes alot of motorway driving.

Neil.

+1. It's a great car but not ideal for those with an abiding interest in mpg.
