Purely window shopping after seeing a lovely E39 M5 drive past.

Most of these are out of the main dealer network.

Like you have 911Virgin for Porsches, who's the go to BMW, or M guys?

I'm fairly local to Munich Legends and always happy to vouch for them as they have been fantastic looking after my cars over the years. Always worth popping in for a look at their stock and have a wander around the back and you'll be able to see some of the restoration work they do, even if you're just window shopping for now.

Keep an eye out on Top Gear and you'll see the odd Munich Legends mug around as they source/supply BMW's (new ones come direct from BMW of course) for the show and they arranged my M3 to go down for some filming recently.

Thanks. An M car isn't suitable at the moment, but the want for an E39 M5 is strong and I see the prices rising in a few years.

I browse 911Virgin every few days. My girlfriend always says "Just buy one".

She will live to regret those words. smile

I think it probably only a matter of time before you have a nice E39 M5 on your drive as you are already on that journey and here is why:-

You now have it in your mind and when you visit Munich Legends (or similar), which you will, there will be no going back. I note you are already looking at the classifieds, one small step for you but one giant leap to M5 ownership?

You do not have the voice of reason, her indoors, telling you how impractical it is or how your money could be better spent. In fact quite the opposite she is encouraging you, this is a massive preventative barrier removed.

You are a bloke so when did logic ever come into play?

You are a bloke so will have little or no will power, the lure of the toy will be too great?

I am a betting man and would wager you have done at least some basic man maths on this?

There is probably never a suitable time to own a M car, if you have a high maintenance missus (they all are to a degree but above average is what I mean here) then fair enough. Two high maintenance, expensive, temperamental, demanding, attention seeking items in your life is too much a burden for any mans wallet or mind but if she is not then go for it as the rewards can be just as fun, if not more so, when it's time to play!

I and other M owners look forward to seeing the pics (car not the missus) of your new toy on here soon....:-)

Where did you find your missus? Has she got a sister???

My missus just gives me the glare when I talk about chopping my car in for something else

Brilliant reply. Made me laugh.

I know it's purely window shopping for the next few months as we have a big holiday coming up and a few other things. So maybe later this year, but the seed has been planted.

Met her in the local pub. Proper dive that my mate dragged me to when he was seeing her mate. Turns out I did the right thing by not been a grumpy sod and staying indoors. Sorry, her sister is taken, although she's the same, even more laid back in fact.

My girlfriend likes nice cars as well and also knows that a nice car makes me happy. Although when it comes to TV's and electrical goodies I get moaned at. Can't have it all I guess.

If you take the ML one as an example then they already have ;-) Mine is on the same mileage (give or take a few 10s of miles) and same year (facelift model) and I bought it a few years ago (on 60k) for a fair bit less than that one! They are so practical that there aren't many low mileage ones around now so if someone is limiting their purchase to a sub-80k one then prices will only get firmer with time I think.

You'll be lucky if they rise.
Take the E36 M3, prices have bottomed out at best and super low miles cars command a premium. Most 'normal' cars don't rise in value and continue to fall when used as intended. Despite various chances trying to sell them on eBay for 7k
I can see the Ferrari F430 rising in value,

Absolutely, I have the funds saved up now for something special but to get her true blessing is not going to happen. She says go for it but I know she does not give a damn about it. Just would be nice if she was in to fast cars too..

Someone probably said the same thing about the E30 M3 when they were going for 3/4k

Ferrari F430 rising in value? I can only assume you own one to make such a statement. They will drop into the late 30's like pretty much every other Ferrari has. Unless it's a scud/cs/etc the F430 will drop in value...not that this is relevant to the op anyway as he wants an E39 M5, not an F430

I wish i'd never sold my M5 tbh, M5 MXL - where are you?

I can wholeheartedly endorse these guys....

I bought an immaculate E60 M5 through ML in April.
Developed gearbox (SMG + clutch) failure after a few weeks, breaking down at the side of road about 8 miles from ML as it happened.
Their guys turned out in force and towed it back to their base to set about sorting it.
All done without any drama by ML; where Dan and his guys were absolutely brilliant.
New SMG (BMW Warranty) and new Clutch (ML).
Back in the car soon after and drives like a warp-driven-dream........

I make the statement because the, f430 is the last of manual car available which is fast and modern, and decent one car be had for 60k ish, which isn't that much for that brand and performance. All this is off topic of course but can make any comparisons, on or off topic

That's really good. How comes the warranty was resolved by BMW and ML covered the clutch?
