M3 E92 Exhaust Inside the Car
Discussion
Hi everyone,
I've just bought an E92 M3 2008 model and I love the car. However, i'd like to be able to hear the engine/exhaust more when inside the car. Compared to the Lexus ISF I drove its very quiet. Its got the standard exhaust at the moment. Obviously ive been on Youtube looking at the vids of the various exhausts and there are some great ones out there but most of the videos just record the sound outside the car. I was wondering if anyone had made a video of their uprated exhaust sound inside the car compared to stock?
Im looking at Eisenmann, Supersprint etc so also if anyone has any feedback on the sound of these exhausts then that would be really appreciated.
With the Eisenmann race exhaust does that involve removing the cats?
Thanks
Simon

If you go for a Eisenmann race with connecting pipes you will not be removing any cats so you won't get any emission lights on with it. The sound will be improved a lot with this exhaust. Basically the cats are in the centre section of the exhaust. Russ fellows does a good exhaust for this car also.
Then there is the the OEM exhaust mod which is the cheapest way to achieve a better sound, just Google it for more info.

You need to Google "E92 M3 exhaust mod" and also checkout the YouTube videos. Check out M3Cutters as well.
This is a very popular mod for E92 M3 owners. You need to find any exhaust company who will cut into your back box to modify 2 of the 4 pipes inside the chambers. I had mine done for £110 and I coupled it with a BMC air filter. The sound produced is night and day different from stock. It sounds incredible.

does it produce any drone? what does it sound like on cold startup? I'\m sure I was reading something on M3 cutters where one of the guys has this oem mod but didn't like the cold startup sound and perhaps some droneThis is a very popular mod for E92 M3 owners. The cold start up sequence sounds amazing. It only lasts for about a minute before it switches to normal fuelling. There is no drone whatsoever with this modification. It's purely about wide open throttle. When you nail it it sounds like the god of thunder himself but when you are on constant throttle like you would be bimbleing around town or on the motorway then it sounds like a stock exhaust.
The sound is there when you need it and it isn't when you don't. Not all the expensive exhausts for the E92 M3 can offer this. It's an incredible mod. A BMC air filter is a must as well to improve the induction noise. I modded my exhaust and got a BMC air filter all for £164.

How does the sound of the exhaust mod compare to uprated the exhaust to something like the Eisenmann or Supersprint?
Also with the exhaust mod is there any engine lights brought on?
Not sure about comparisons with other exhausts. I'd use YouTube for that. Also with the exhaust mod is there any engine lights brought on?
There are no lights generated as its only the backbox that is modded. The lambda sensors are way further down the exhaust and are not touched. This mod is a win win modification, it's the talk of the E92 M3 world as its so effective. If you Google what I mention above in post 3 you will gets loads of threads.

I'm really tempted by this - but currently I do get on with my neighbours and I regularly leave the house at 5:30am so I am also concerned about cold start/low revs noise?
In my experience all after market exhausts make an awful lot of noise during the cold start phase, they tend to be massively bassy, You can't hear yourself think when stood behind my Tubi equipped e92 on start up. Might be worth noting you can have the cold start up removed from the ECU programme if its too loud in the mornings. I'll try and put together a video of mine at some point, running a Militek system and its really loud on startup. Amazing noise when opening it up and makes that downshift sound even better with the odd pop and crackle.
