M5 Collected!!
Discussion
Only going to do a brief review as so far only managed 80 miles & most of that time i was familiarising myself with my new surroundings.
Train journey over to Chesterfield to collect my M5 was seamless & the Sales Rep met me at the station to give me a lift to the dealers. Handover with Stratstone was simple & straight forward & i can't recommend them enough. There was a small cock up/misunderstanding there end regarding insurance as i was told on Friday i'd get there 7 day cover free & my Tesco cover was due to kick in at the weekend, however for some reason this hadn't happened so i had to get Tesco to bring my cover forward which cost me 69p. As a result of this last minute hitch, the rep put £50 worth of fuel in the car & got the Valeting team to do the Guard treatment on the seats & carpets FOC. so the minor inconvenience was no issue.
The car itself looks stunning & as a few have said, very understated which is exactly what i wanted. It looks mean & purposeful without needing to shout. Loving the wheels & the huuuge discs behind them. The colour combo of Singapore Grey with Silverstone leather is a fabulous match & i'm so pleased with it.
The drive is best described as Epic & is exactly as Hamster referred to on Top Gear. An Animal when you hit the M Button but a luxury cruiser when you set all to comfort. Liking the fact now only 3 setting for Throttle, Suspension, Steering & Gear Shift & these can now all be altered on the move without messing with the iDrive, you can also save 2 favourite combos to M buttons on the wheel. Each setting can felt & all have there merits although not really played with them all fully yet.
Being an M i have to take things easyish for 1200 miles when the Run In service gets done so no more than 5000 rpm for now. This is plenty though for the time being whilst i get used to RWD. Also loving the fact that when cruising at 80mph the car is just tipping the 30mpg mark which for a big chunk of my driving is what i'll be getting.
Lots & lots of nice toys in the car such as HUD, BMW Integrated Apps (can Facebook & Tweet from the car), integrated office for email, contacts & calendar (not worked out how to use that yet) . Still a lot of toys to play with & work out. The Harman Kardon Music system is fantastic & more than on a par with the B&O in our Q5. Need to mess about with the Equaliser still to get a perfect sound.
Will post some pictures hopefully later in the week as for now she's tucked up in the garage as may as well pile the miles on the A8 whilst it's still with me.
Very very happy & the F10 M5 is arms & legs better & most importantly more usable than the E60 i had years ago.

Good work - looking forward to seeing the pictures. With regards to the running in period, I've heard contradictory advice as people whom I've spoken to who followed it religiously seem to end up with cars that need regular oil top-ups, and those that have thrashed them from day one, don't (although I suspect the statistics will be skewed by the number of people who thrash it being very low).
Is it a lease car or a keeper?

Sorry for the poor quality but piccies taken with my iPhone just at it started to rain.

I got mine on a 36 month Business Contract Hire. As regards the running in period, i'll not be driving miss daisy so will give it a few wellies once warmed up but will of course be sympathetic (isn). Is it a lease car or a keeper?

What's the 'official' line?
Keep RPM below 5000, no full throttle. The theory is this as far as I understand.
If you run a car in too gently then before the rings and bores bed in they harden and so don't wear very much more. If the rings and bores are not fully bedded in then oil can get past the two surfaces which are not fully bedded in.
If you are not so gentle then the bores and rings bed in fully leaving little or no gap for oil to get past. However, if you are too rough then you will create excessive wear which obviously is not good.
The best advice, as far as I can determine, is to use plenty of revs, within the 5,000 rpm limit, but not too much power. So make full use of the 5,000 rpm limit by changing up later then you normally would, but under relatively light load. Heavy load will cause rod bearing wear which is not what you want.
I must stress that this is what I've heard, I don't know if it's true, so take it as you like. There is definitely evidence that in the E39 M5, which is well known for using a lot of oil, 1L per 500 miles is not uncommon, cars that have been run in more harshly have less oil consumption than those that have been babied. My car, for example, was a dealer demonstrator originally and so probably had quite a hard first few 1000 miles, it uses almost no oil at all - I put in 1/2 L at 107,806 miles, it was previously topped up at 101,135 miles.

Quick question though, as i've still got the A8 for another few weeks & my M5 arrived a month earlier than expected, is it an issue that usage of the new M5 for the next few weeks will be limited but then normal usage will resume? To expand, i'll have a few blats out over the next few weeks as per above, however it will probably only cover another 100 miles over that period at which point usage will increase to 1k miles per month.
