Not really depreciating at all anymore, except for poor examples. Well maintained examples are now holding quite firmly, with warrantied cars even creeping up ever so slightly.

The snotters and those with high mileage will shed value more quickly than a nicely maintained and warranted lower mileage example. It's the case with all cars really. Expect those that have been properly maintained and are in top mechanical and cosmetic condition to command strong money.

Not many seem to be selling though, some E60 M5's have been for sale for months, even low miles ones with full bmw history.
I'm in the market for one, just had someone round this morning to view my E39 M5 which is not advertised just word of mouth through forum.
Does this M5 look like a gamble, spoke to the guy who has had 3 M5's and he said it drives without fault, no judder on take up when hot or cold but looks like possibly never had a clutch/fly or smg pump. I've never seen a car with so many options, normally you get a few blanking plates on the centre console but this has evey one filled with buttons, even has ventilated fr seats.

I think it seems quite a nice example but its putting me off that its not had clutch/fly pump done under warranty. He said his previous E60 M5 went to 88k on original clutch before he traded for an RS6.

What do you think ?

Simon.

This car is believed to have had a new clutch under warranty at around 30k miles/4 years ago - but there is no supporting paperwork and BMW will not give me any due to data protection.

I am sure BMW will tell you everything done on the car through the vin number at the dealers?

Apart from that looks good, I would add the BMW-Warranty.co.uk as its still under 60k

Ha ha... that's nearly £5,000 per annum. So they'll be giving the £15k 2005 ones away in 3 years?

Yes i did see that and have spoke to the owner at length who seems to be a genuine guy but he said the dealers wouldn't tell him what work had been done under warranty, he just thinks the clutch may have been replaced from what one the dealers said but they never actually said ' yes its had a clutch' they kept banging on about data protection and not giving him straight answers.

Is their anyway i can find out if i get the vin off him ?

Thanks
Simon.

You can call them on 0906 209 0001 but its £1 a minute. If you can get the last 7 digits of the chassis number and take it to the dealers they may help you out unless you have a friendly one behind the counter.

BMW can tell you when the car visited a dealer, but won't tell you what it visited for if it's not a service. Had this on a number of occasions when trying to verify histories. FWIW my E60 had a clutch, flywheel etc at 36k or 39k miles (can't remember which) and it's now on 51k with no problems at all. I guess you'd hope that to be the case!

Is the black car still covered by Mondial or AUC warranty?

Right, back now just popped out to get my haircut !

Thanks for that phone number i have used it before but couldn't remember the number or where to find it.
Just made a call to a BMW dealer i used to work at 13 yrs ago & spoke to someone i know there who can help me out re the warranty history but not till Monday.

The black M5, Mondial warranty expired in May & wasn't renewed but it still qualifies for it with full BMW history. Most M5's seem to be on a rolling monthly warranty so your not getting any extra benefit buying one with that, if i can find one that has a year paid up in full then thats worth what £1200 or so. 18k is about my budget.

the data protection bit is bullst. I've got the entire printout for my car, including from before I had it. There is no mention of the actual customer on there at all

The only details are what you see below plus dealer address, nothing personally identifiable at all.

Haha? Calm down joker. BMW gave me a future value (3 years) of a 28k m5 to be £6k. So a loss of £22k in 36 months. Sure you will do the math but that's them calculating depreciation on this particular car to be £611 p/m.

Shocking, hence why I'm asking the general question.

Final balloon payments on used cars are always much lower than their actual value. However, it does show how much confidence BMW has in E60 used values... i.e. not much... and why should it? It's a car they don't make anymore.

BMW make no money from a used E60... they'd much prefer to sell you a nice shiny new F10 which they do profit from! smile

they make a lot of money and large profits on spares but their performance is mostly linked to actual car sales (and future parts sales as well) hence they want to see cars leaving showroom.

What are you considering to be low mileage?

Under 60 thousand miles but the lower te better. Only really 2 cars on the net at the minute that i like the look of but one is £950 over my top top budget of 20k. The black one in Aberdeen ( on Pistonheads )seems to be the perfect M5. Not keen on modified M5's. Could do with finding something closer to Kent ! The guy who's buying my M5 wants to pick it up asap, will be gone by tomorrow will really miss it after 4yrs but hoping an E60 will be more fun.
