F10 M5 Tracker
Discussion
Did anyone get a tracker fitted, did it reduce premiums? Should take delivery in a week so looking into it.
My current insurer (AXA) is asking but I might just change and miss out on the 6 months of this years policies no claims as I have 7 built up.
Compare the market is coming up with £600 or so , might just move.

It is a wise move. Most insurance companies will not give you a discount; they simply want one fitted as an extra security feature.
I would not go for a Tracker, instead I would have a Cat 5 Trackstar. Basic systems are GPS only, and these can be jammed. The Trackstar is BMW approved and is a GPS/GSM based system. Further, the Cat 5 system uses a transponder, which is small enough to fit in a wallet.
So even if the car is taken with your key, the Monitoring Centre is alerted & the engine shut down. £760 fitted.

Cheers for the replies guys, did a compare the market and tesco and admiral dont require one so i will not be staying with axa, about £600 a year which i think is pretty reasonable for my age (approaching middle age...)
I was shocked by how low Tesco's quote came out as they were over £250 cheaper than the next lowest quote. Quoted £388 for Class 1 which is the lowest i've paid on any car for quite a few years. Even the wife's Q5 is over £450 & the A8 was close to £500.W8PMC said:

Am 43, good postcode, no points & max NCB.TBH i was convinced that there was a problem with the comparison site so ran the quote a few times & even contacted Tesco directly. All confirmed so actually took out the cover before the car arrived to lock down the price

Not 100% sure tbh, I know you don't get the V5 and your not detailed on it but here's the questions lifted from the Tesco website;
I am, or my spouse/partner or civil partner is, the owner of the car
I am, or my spouse/partner or civil partner is, the registered keeper of the car
If you can not answer yes to both they can't insure you

I thought in a lease we were the registered keeper, but not the owner?
A google would suggest you are the registered keeper and as such Tesco insurance would be validIt's no different to having a car on finance, they own if, you keep it.

They accepted it and it was fitted in minutes at the BMW Dealers before I got the car.
You can extend the cover for 4 more years for £199:00
This tracker can NOT be blocked.
Best to phone if you have any doubts but you'll only be doing what I already did.....
You don't own the lease car (you have no guaranteed option to buy it at the end, hence different from finance) so you can't answer yes to BOTH of the questions above.

When I've been getting quote there is simply a tick box 'are you the registered keeper'
I'm with Direct Line and they've quote £70 additional premium for 6 months plus tracker knowing it's a lease car.
Personally I don't want a tracker. If the car gets stolen, I don't want it back.
Probably more importantly for a lease car is Back to Invoice. I assume if it went say 12 months into a lease agreement BMW would want back to invoice to get you back into a car with the correct value?
