Couple of quick questions?

I have the advanced iPhone 5 cradle in my car, when cradled is the phone connected to the car via Bluetooth or via the cradle? May sound like a stupid question but things such as connected drive only work when the iPhone is physically connected via cradle or USB so my thinking was under these conditions perhaps Bluetooth isn't being used. I have no desire to use Bluetooth audio as will have a big ass USB stick in situ so the iPhone will purely be used for Connected Drive & phone calls etc.

Also is there somewhere in settings where i can change the cars Bluetooth name? I think it's default is BMW***** (* being random numbers) In previous cars i've been able within the car settings or bluetooth setting to change this to a more accurate naming convention such as Paul's BMW?

Thanks in advance.

I am also interested in the answers to Paul's questions.

And can anybody confirm what cradle is needed for full iphone 5 connection with all media etc connected rather than blue-toothed?

Pretty sure that the phone part is always connected via Bluetooth, music is not though unless you select the Bluetooth source. Apps etc. can only run when the iPhone is physically connected.

The numbers after BMW in the car Bluetooth name are the last 5 digits of your VIN.

It's the advanced cradle that's needed for full integration. Part No: 84212351308. They retail about £150 (there is a simple version that costs around £80 but it has limited functionality).

If you search on eBay using that part number you'll find Cooper BMW selling them. After much searching they were the cheapest by a good few ££'s.

Cheers Richard, that makes sense.

Can the Bluetooth name be changed?

In the older cars you could easily change it, not sure about the current crop, but I'd guess you can with the correct diagnostic tools.
