Hello

My e92 m3 has just had brake service, whilst in I was told/warned I had 2500 miles until oil service.

Oil service involving change of following (engine oil, diff oil, gearbox oil (manual car) and axle oil) plus spark plug change. Total cost for job £929 inc VAT etc etc

Anyone had this done recently and if is at what cost?

Thanks

Buy all the oil from Opie oils as they supply all genuine oils and then haggle on the labour costs with your local dealers. The saving on the engine oil alone will be about £100.

I'm more familiar with E46 but that seems like an inspection 2 service!

That's not an oil service. Oil service plus respective filters, and an mot on mine cost me £560 this summer. Over £300 was oil alone so it's definitely worth sourcing your own from Opie if your stealer allows it.
What you've been quoted sounds like a made up lets change every fluid in the car service??

What happened to the "filled for life" gearbox?

BTW: (1)I don't disagree with changing gearbox oil, (2)What's the difference between diff oil and axle oil? and (3) I think the prices quoted are mad!

Unreal. I genuinely cannot; for the life of me understand how the dealer can ask for that amount for an oil change.

Even dick turpin wore a mask!

£560.

£560, nope can't swallow that at all

Cheers all....some more research needed indeed.

On opie.... Am I after rare oil located on the top of a mountain by a Swiss Virgin?! I don't begrudge running what is a lovely car.... But sometimes you do think f*ck me that's expensive!!

Apparently diff oil on M3 has additive for the LSD 'their words not mine!'

You can get Castrol Edge 10W 60 at about £30 from eurocarparts or carparts4less. How many litres does the engine need?

There is a service due at around 30000 miles where they say you should change engine oil, diff oil, gearbox oil (if manual) and spark plugs, and I think typical this is costing most people around £800-£900, so your quote doesnt sound miles off.

But there are some high costs being quoted on this thread for the more simple service

I had my e92 m3 serviced by a BMW main dealer for £266 inc vat, this was just a service where they change the engine oil and filter and check a few bits over, so not the big one I described above, but still cheaper than most on here are quoting. Of the £266,That broke down as £156 for the oil and £17 for the filter, the rest was labour

I was quite surprised by how 'reasonable' that service was, was expecting to get my hat nailed on.

I believe the e92 takes 8 litres of oil.

Can you clarify if you are due

Oil Service
Inspection 1
Inspection 2

I suspect the price you have been quoted is for Ins 2.

It doesn't work like that on the more modern BMW's, they are on Condition Based Serivcing, the 'old' Oil, Insp I, Insp II doesn't apply.

Was quoted c£850 at a BMW dealer. Out of warranty anyway @ 77k miles and 6 years old. Good indie did it for £200 cheaper. Look elsewhere.

So let me get this right.

£929 to open drain bolt/s, let liquid out, close drain bolts, open filler cap/s, put liquid in, close filler caps.....

Yup, seems legit !

Ah man...I can't believe you made me dig out the invoice to remind me of the pain! I exaggerated anyway. £222 for oil and labour, £123 microfilter, £63 air filter, £56 mot, couple of other labour line items, add the vat and its £558. It felt quite a lot at the time but its only the best for my baby. That said can anyone recommend a respected Indy near to Hants/Surrey border because I'm expecting some bigger work soon, including brakes, and I've got an EDC light on the dash currently.

E92 M3 is Condition Based Servicing, not O, Ins1, Ins2 scheme.

OP - Shop around. I'm slightly ashamed to say I don't know how much it costs, as I have the servicing pack, hence it costs me nothing… But seriously, call up some other dealers and ask for an Oil Service price.

Also, you shouldn't be needing a Diff oil change, and highly unlikely you need a trans oil change unless your car has stratospheric mileage.

The manual for e92 M3 states that diff oil , manual gearbox oil and sparkplugs should be changed at the 3rd service.
