Hi All,

Looking for a bit of advice. I have a mate who is converting the above to a full race car so looking for an aftermarket dash with datalogger etc to run in the car, either splice onto the excisting ECU ......or go for the full shooting match and get aftermarket ECU as well.

With something like a racetechnology dash you can use a CAN connection to use the excisting ECU or is the BMW electronics in this case a bit more complicated, it would mean all the sensors could still be used rather than get new ones to go onto the dash channels.

Anyway all we're after is something to replace the clocks, give read outs of water and oil temp, oil pressure, fuel pressure, revs and run a shift light, most of them nowadays have GPS to do away with wheels sensors for MPH and data logging, so it would be interesting to see what people have done.

Thanks in advance

I'm running the AIM MXL Pista in mine - you can remove the standard clocks and wire this straight into the CANBUS of the standard ECU (an easy splice of two wires into the wires behind the dash).

You can use all of the standard sensor feeds from the standard loom, water temp, oil temp, steering angle, etc, etc and only the fuel sender takes a little bit of work to get working correctly.

Mine has logging on it and I've just bought an AIM SmartyCam which allows you to film with the data overlaid onto the video which (for me anyway) helps me make much better use of the data. Also you don't have to do any post processing of the video, just take the memory card out and all the data which you chose to will be already on the video ready to watch, upload onto youtube, etc.
