Looks superb...low miles, nice spec, new tyres, recent clutch (was flywheel changed)....and warranty

You can't really ask for more.....get that for £16k and you have quite a car...

Not sure I like the black though....a bit too subtle IMHO.......but still a beautiful car

Probably a typo, but "new front tyres" in 235/40/19? Should be 255/40/19.

clutch replacment at 23,000 miles may indicate the cars been driven hard, or previous owner did plenty of stop/start driving.

MP from London according to the advert - burnout outside Parliament perhaps?!

Likely to indicate a car which has been in traffic a lot - ironically if it's been driven hard on the open road the clutch will last for ages.

yes agreed re. the clutch lasting longer if the car was driven as it should be. It's whether it has been abused over short blasts which would lead to premature clutch failure.

If only the torque figures were as the advert states!

Having second thoughts not sure i could live with the jerkyness of the smg or the 12 mpg still may ponder on it for a few days

Be very sure that you can live with the fuel consumption and more importantly the very short range (200 miles max if used in urban driving, 250-280 miles if motorway duties).

The SMG you can learn how to get the best from, rather consider the roads and conditions you will be driving in as others have said. There is no way to make it economical and the range is comical. If you are going to have at least some open roads to enjoy then go for it.
Lots of small niggles on mine, the infamous battery cable problem, bulbs pop here and there, 2 rear tyres due to punctures, uses very expensive oil (litre every 1500kms or so). Nothing really scary but you need to look after these quite carefully.
Having said all of the above there is nothing like it when banging through gears 3-7 on the highway in M mode. Haven't been in a car even close to the experience.

You need to go and drive one first before making a decision , I managed to get a good hours test drive before I bought mine. My car is a bit jerky when its cold but ok once warm after 2 or 3 miles. Once on the move you can change gear really smoothly by a little lift on the accelerator every time you change up.
Go on YouTube and search for E60 M5 Top Gear part 2 and listen to Jeremy Clarkson he loves it.

I had an '05 M5 before, and it was plagued with problems. So far, touch wood, my '07 M5 hasn't had a single issue.

I know anecdotal evidence is a bit crap in these scenarios, but I'd liken it to the situation with E65 7ers, where the early model years were known to be problematic and they sorted most of the niggles out in later years.

Only benefit to the '05 M5s IMO is that they have a proper key so are immune to the OBD thefts.

MPG is way out, but other than that what's wrong with it? Torque is about right, although not in lb/ft, it's more or less correct when talking Nm.

not sure it will live up to my expectations after recently having a 997 s that was good on fuel and a normal manual gear chance and in the handling it was sublime

If its any help I run an M5 and a GT3, sure the latter is more fun on the twisty bits and its engine note is brilliant. However the M5 is also very good fun on more open roads and I don't really mind which I drive they are both brilliant.

The car looks really nice (I'm a little biased as it's mine) haha
She produces 520Nm of torque (384lb ft) and does return 28mpg on a long run. Sub 20 mpg around town. The previous owner lived and worked in the city of London thus a lot of start / stop traffic.
I had a airbag module replaced last month by Knights BMW in Stoke who carried out a full inspection and health check on the vehicle upon my request with no issues whatsoever. It's my third vehicle that I sadly never have time to drive as I've just started my own company and now have too many vehicles at home.

MPG way out, Torque way out, top speed is 155mph (unless the car is modified which this appears not to be) & the 0-62 is a tad ambitious at 4.2 as IIRC BMW quoted 4.7 or 4.8. Mine stock was certainly not capable of doing low 4's & even DMS tuned it was still mid 4's.

28mpg on a long run, really? That must be sat at 60mph as i never saw more than 22-24ish on a 75mph motorway cruise being careful.

You're comparing two completely different cars with very different remits.

The M5 is stunning to drive, with one of the best engines ever made.

As a tourer, it's sensational.

SMG is no problem at all if you understand how it works and learn how to use it....most people are ignorant and moan on and on about jerky SMG.

I averaged 19mpg in mixed driving, including a commute to work.

The 911 is a fabulous sportscar, love them, with the 2S being my favourite.

But I think everyone should have an M5 at least once, you would not be disappointed.

By the way, I love the description "full extended leather" in the ad.....E60s came with extended leather as standard and full leather as a very desirable £5K option.....this car has the standard leather only!
