I have a E46 M3 rapidly approaching build date anniversary of May.
Subframe checked in Dec by Autohaus and nothing found but I'd like to take the opportunity while I'm in warranty period.
Would a main dealer fix it if there's no evidence of a problem? I know it's more a case of 'when' then 'if', but surely a main dealer wouldn't want to carry out a repair on a car that isn't showing evidence of the problem having materialised, even if they know it will do sooner or later.Subframe checked in Dec by Autohaus and nothing found but I'd like to take the opportunity while I'm in warranty period.
My point is, BMW were fixing this FOC on affected cars up to ten years old because they admitted it was basically a design fault, but I can't see them agreeing to do the work for nothing if there's no evidence of the floor having started to split, just so you can get it done before your car's too old to qualify for it doing FOC.
I see what you mean, but i'm not asking for a boot floor. I'm simply asking for a check.
I'm getting it checked because two pairs of eyes over it is better than one. I've heard stories of folk having them checked and no fault found, then a week later somewhere else and it's a major problem.
Surely it's better to have it checked now while its in warranty than wait and potentially land myself with a big bill.

It doesn't need to be in warranty to be fixed FOC - the car simply has to not be older than ten years, unless the rules have changed. But sure, it's worth getting it checked as there may be the beginnings of something which can't be seen without a thorough check but is enough to trigger the remedial work. If you can get the work done it'll give you peace of mind as well as anyone who might be interested in buying it in future, so it's a good idea to get it looked at. Just don't expect a mean dealer to undertake £4,500 of work on a car that doesn't need it - I'm sure they'd much rather it failed after it had ceased to be eligible for a free repair!
