so on Sunday I took my car for its weekly wash at the local drive through, you know the type all staff of dubious origins wearing suit jackets and shell suit bottoms slip on shoes ect, any way whilst drying off my car " borat " opens my door and says in his best English nice car mate " what year is it what's it worth " I replied about 15k at which he fell about laughing no no mate not 15k maybe 6k I tried to explain what it was he then shot me down saying no no 15k ,I've seen advertised a 2002 740 for 2.5k so this maybe 6k, so I gave up and slammed my door it's been a mixed week of laughter and head shaking ha ha I give up

He should have bought the 7 series, higher numbers are always better, 7 is bigger and better than 5....no ??

Because it's a form of insult when someone tells you what THEY think your car is worth.

If someone said that to me I would have turned around and said "maybe....but I bet you couldn't afford the petrol"

no its not, its just their opinion based on poor knowledge, you choose to take it as an insult because you value yourself by monetary items, the problem is not what he said but more on what you measure yourself by wink

i recently sold a pram on ebay and a nice eastern european chap turned up to collect it. it was in the boot of my car (e39 m5) when he arrived. i opened the car and removed it for him. he had a quick look round the car and we had a brief conversation:

"this m power?"
"yes, its an m5" i replied
"this m5!?"
"yes, an e39"
"this not m5!"
"i assure you it is"
"this not m5! this not m power!"
"ok then"
"no, this not m power"

Should have said "ok chap, here's £13000, go and buy me 2 of these and you can keep the change."

Does it say M5 on the bootlid? It is a well known fact that all cars that have an M badge on the back are indeed proper M cars. Maybe that was why he was confused. wink

Someone once asked me when the M power kicks in on my car.

I had no idea what he was on about.

I used to get people shouting abuse at me from their cars for having an M5 badged 5 series Touring. Apparently the M5 Touring didn't exist.

The only thing that changed the tone was the 5.0 V10 opening up. Doubters soon became a spec in the rear view.
