I have recently bought a Z4MR and the central locking automatically engages when the car hits approximately 10mph. When I stop, turn the engine off and remove the ignition key the central locking remains locked. I asked my local dealers to change the programme so that the car would unlock when the ignition key is removed, however, they have told me that its not an option on this car. Please can anyone confirm whether the dealer is correct or alternatively what I need to do to change the setting.

Hi,

The Z4M is an e46 in a lot of ways, certainly the electronics look shared. My old e46 the car would lock automatically, but would NOT unlock when I stopped.

The 6-series I have, however, will unlock the door when you take the keys out of the ignition. Obviously a problem they identified and fixed.

Hope that helps.

I don't think it's possible. With an Intravee fitted my 328 unlocks when I put it into Park, but no chance on a z4M.

You soon get used to pulling the handle twice.

I don't know if the roadster is the same as the coupe (should be), but I call 'bks' as mine was returned after some warranty work and the auto-locking (among other things) had been disabled.

I complained, booked it back in the dealer recoded it.

Many thanks for the responses. My 60 plate 1 Series which I use for work allowed me to programme the central locking requirements myself. looks like I will just have to live with it Thanks again.

Rather than pull the handle twice I got into the habit of using the unlock button on the key as you take it out if the ignition so it became second nature in the end. No programmable when I looked into it.

My z4m used to unlock when I took the key from the ignition, I had the option via my intravee in the extras menu so it is possible.

I think this is something that the Intravee does, not something natively supported by the car.

It's a great bit of kit. It was put together by some clever guys - basically because it's already hooked into the car's system pretending to be a CD changer, it can control a lot of other modules too - like the lights, locking, mirrors etc

When I unlock mine the front fogs and rear lights come on for 30 seconds. hehe

Auto locking can be disabled but the auto unlocking when you turn off the engine or remove the key is not a BMW option.
