M3 & M4 launch last night
Discussion
Went along to the local BMW dealer last night after receiving an invite for the launch of the M3 & M4.
The M4 might as well not have been there, the M3 had all eyes on it.
Sounded fantastic considering it is a Turbo lump!!
A few pics....taken with iPhone so not the best of course. Rear arches are awesome, almost 80's style

Saw both of these at Warrington yesterday and was left a meh. The M3 in orange with black wheels was awful and the M4 was in black which in my eyes didn't do it any favours as all the little details the differentiate the M4 from the normal car seemed to get lost in all the black. When I enquired about orders I was told 3 months on any car so it would appear at the moment demand is not high.
I walked in the showroom ready to buy and walked out with an altogether different mind-set. I think I'll wait 12 months and see where the land lies as I'm convinced that however good a car this is it will go the same way as all the other cars in the M range and end up discounted and heavily supported by BMW in no time at all. So if you buy now you either buy because you can afford to lose the £30K initial deprecation over 18-24 months or because you intend to keep the car for 4-5 years at which point it all evens out.

V8 Animal - The M4 was so boring in Black it might as well have been not been there...there was a more impressive 320d further down the showroom. M4 wasn't worthy of a photo.
paulmon - Warrington is my local too. Each to their own...I loved the M3 in Orange. Wouldn't ever consider an M4 but I have always preferred a 4 door M3 from when they first arrived in E36 guise and then E90. Totally agree with the depreciation - lead time is short, they already have at least one customer car on site ready to deliver therefore initial demand cant be too hot. Haven't ever bought new and wont start now!!

Spent some time in the new M3 today (sadly not in the drivers seat) and it is a fine piece of machinery.
My conclusion is that I can’t wait for the E46-sized M2 to be released. M3 is just too stonking big for my taste. Looks and feels more like a very sporty GT than a sports car from the inside and outside.

Driving an M4 dct on Monday....dealer had an M3 in Mineral white (metallic) with red leather and carbon alongside a plain white M4....they are both so bloody big and whilst I love all whites on the right cars these are prob too big for the colour so maybe Silverstone or like the old E46 Silver Grey would be better...piped cabin engine noise is a concern as is the depreciation.....some years back I bought a 6 month old mint full spec M3 smg cab in carbon black 3k miles 1 lady owner for £33600 trade, list £56k.....these new models if anything will be residually worse IMO.......
Had a good look and a sit in a white M3 yesterday afternoon, overall I thought it looked nicely aggressive with its blistered arches.
I dont like the blue brake calipers against certain body colours, they really clash.I know you can have gold calipers at great expense with the carbon ceramics but even these wont suit certain colours,it would be nice to be offered a different choice at minimal expense if you so wished, just black would do me fine,i don't think this option exists? For 55k plus (add another 7k for ceramics) I would like to be able to match the calipers to the car rather than the car to the calipers! Ofc you could do this off your own back later, but why should you have to?
Couldn't decide if I like the alloys or not,i think I would rather have either all black or all silver instead of a bit of both as was on the car I viewed.
Rear valance not bold enough at the bottom corners imo, looks a bit fussy especially with the little reflective strip/light that really doesn't look right, its as if its fallen out with the rest of the rear light cluster and has dropped down to sulk on its own
and again certain colours will highlight this even more.
Under the hood looks good, nice carbon fiber strut brace, straight bonnet shut line looks awful.
Seats looked great and felt comfy/supportive but then I was only doing 0 mph in the showroom.
I think the new M3 and M4 will be quite colour sensitive, more so than previous models perhaps.
I didnt get to hear the engine, that will be tomorrow when I take the M4 on a test drive, looking forward to it
