As is the way in life....and so often the way with owning M cars, Sod's law has crept up on me.

2 weeks before my e92 M3 is due to be traded in, the amber EML light has come on with reduced power restriction (tedious).

I have had this before with ignition coils, however, when they went the engine sounded like a bag of spanners, this time the engine sounds fine and unlike last time the light goes out on restart and comes back on 10-mins into driving.

I was thinking throttle actuator, however, the DSC light hasn't come on and most people I've encountered with this problem have this light too.

Possibly idle control?? It goes in on Tuesday for diagnosis and I'm so hoping BMW don't rape my wallet one last time.

Anyone any other thoughts and anyone had actuators fail and DSC light not come on as well?

I had the Idle Control Device fail on my E92 M3 a few weeks ago. As far as I can remember it brought up exactly the same errors on the iDrive screen as the throttle actuators.

I ordered mine online (no warranty) and swapped it out myself for £186. People on other forums without warranties were stung by BMW somewhere in the region of £650-750. If you have a warranty then obviously you have nothing to worry about.

Yep, I have no intention of hiding the fault to the dealer! Always a bit if honesty in these things. I will either get BM to sort it or tell the dealer who can sort it at their cost and reduce trade in value.
