Been thinking of getting a more sensible and low profile car so have been testing the waters. Went for a test drive in the first car I liked which is an 2014 S4 with B&0. First impressions are good, liking the low down grunt from the supercharger and 5 seats is a bonus. The car handles well enough for it's size and the gearbox is very nice when driving in town and still responsive enough in the corners. Only shocker was I was quoted a best price of £27,500 for my M3 (details below). I was hoping to get at least 30-31k... perhaps I was expecting too much?

Should I be looking at trying to sell privately to get a better price? Not very keen due to bad experience. Should I wait around longer for better deals? Just a bit surprised at the big drop considering I pay just shy of 37k for the car last December...

A 13 plate with DCT, Comp Pack, 4 years left of service pack, Carbon trim on alpine white etc etc....with 10,000 miles will only fetch 36-38k if BMW were to buy off someone and sell it for £42k......so 28k for yours is probably not far from what I would expect.

They want a 4-5k margin . Sell Private you'll recover at least a couple of grand in my opinion.

On checking wewillbuyyourcar.com they offered £27.5k for a bog standard version of your car.

So that is probably all Audi did. I've always found Audi dealers to obnoxious so it does not surprise me that they haven't taken into account the competition pack or any of the other extras.

So you you should easily achieve £30k from a more sympathetic dealer I would have thought.

This crap is exactly why I lease these days. Makes the £8k per year I pay for the M5 and 14k miles look cheap!

Advertise it on PH and Autotrader for the amount you want, see how much interest it generates. Best way to see its real market value. As others have said id expect nearer £30k. Lovely spec and colour, was my first choice when I was looking.

What's the reason for going the Audi route? Rather dull?

Well got a call 30 min after I left said they did something they won't usually do and somehow knocked 1k off the price to change.

Excellent customer service though and regarding price offered perhaps they need to keep margins up so everyone gets a decent portion of the commission...

I guess selling privately would always be the best option. There's another guy with same car as mine on a forum but almost double my mileage + more previous owners and have sold 33k privately.

Just shopping around for a more sensible car. M3 is nice (but not without its flaws) but I am starting to think that I cannot justify the running costs.

Most Audis are a bit dull on the driving experience but I've found them to be reliable, well built and good value for money.

My friend is part exchanging a similar spec Frozen Grey albeit with much lower miles and is getting £32K I believe.

That's a great price! Same year or newer?

Fair play. I guess if you do high miles in the M3 the cost can creep up. Luckily I only do 10-12k pa in mine so not too bad.
