Well parked my m5 next to the m4 and on first impressions I think the m4 looks more aggressive. The m5 does look like it`s fatter brother.

Anyway took it for a spin and straight away loved the noise from the engine (speakers?!?) on hitting the accelerator, much louder than the m5 up the rev range.

The car feels like a out and out racer, more something I`d want as a toy. With the way the seats are and the seating position. Also sticks to the road like glue, really impressive. Feels like you could really push on in the bends. Interior wise liked the carbon, loved the seats.

Comparing it to the m5, the m buttons on my m5 make it an animal/are like night and day. But on the m4 found the settings only changed the car slightly. Speed wise the m5 everyday, it would punish it on straight line performance for sure. But in the bends you can feel the extra weight of the m5, and the m4 would be a chuckle to press on in on the twisties.

Ok so not a ground breaking review and probably what everybody would expect. But m5 everytime as a car, it`s just everything, but m3/4 for looks and a toy!

Does the M5 look small or the M4 look big?

Was expecting a reasonable size difference but both look the same size.

now you say that I agree. The m5 looks more rounded though and the m4 chiseled. But the interior difference is vast

Done 3k miles in my F10 M5. Performance, comfort amazing, but miss the E92 M3. Probably in a minority, however the M5 is a bit lardy/heavy which blunts the fun. The M3 was a brilliant all rounder and regularly did 300 mile stints in one go, so for me wasn't just a car for around the doors or short blasts. Drove an E63 a few weeks ago and tbh this was better than I expected. Got a test drive planned on the M4. If it goes well then as things stand the M5 will be replaced in 18 months time by this or anew C63? or may be a E63. Don't get me wrong the M5 is special, particularly when caning around 5k-6k revs. The jolt through the car is a bit excessive however when changing gear in M mode and everything dialed to max. Throttle response doesn't seem a sharp as the M3 and can detect s small amount of lag, but this could be just my specific car and will get it checked out.

Which was / is more fun? The E92 or F10 M5? I get that the M5 is a lot faster straight line, but which would you take out on a Sunday morning?

I used to have an F430 and that tbh wasn't *that* fast, my 997 GTS was probably a similar pace, but the F430 felt more fun because of the sound, the way it felt light on it's feet and the way it raced up the gearbox. I think.... as I found that revvy engine fun, I'd probably find an E92 fun as well.

For me the M3 by some margin. But it's also a brilliant all rounder. I had 19 inch wheels on the M3 and then put 18 inch wheels for the winter and kept them on but changed to summer tyres - it drove a lot better. I never really found an issue with the performance/lack of torque.

The M3 E92 - with the right options, (small things like Carbon structure trim), can make all the difference.

Anyone thinking of selling their E92 M3 make sure you like the alternative, as the E92 M3 is a cracking car and imho possibly last of a kind.

I would've expected the M5 to be considerably quicker than the M3/4. I drove the M3 yesterday and I was staggered at the pace of it. I've got a Z4MC which is quick, but not in the same league as the new M3 is, so perhaps I was less used to the performance than someone who owns an F10 M5 already.

However I compared the Autocar tests of the M4 with the M5 and was surprised at the results. To be fair to the M5 the conditions were damp when it was tested so perhaps you can knock a few tenths off the standing start times but there was nothing in it at all in the in-gear times, if anything at sensible speeds the M4 is slightly quicker. Some examples below, with the M5 in parentheses. As a reminder, Autocar test all cars with a full tank of fuel and two people so if these aren't as quick as you have seen elsewhere then that will explain why.

I have found the same thing going from a C63 to 2014 E63.
I am sure you'll find the same concerns over a prolonged period of ownership. Slightly laggy throttle and a lot of bulk. Still a great everyday rocketship, but not something I'd take out for a blat on a Sunday morning.

Out of curiosity, did the C63 tick the sunday morning box for you?

Very accurate review and my findings also.
My M5 is a better all round tool.
I have the M6 GC with CP on order for september 1st delivery, that is a step up IMO on both.

Where's this demo model in Sakhir Orange? I want to see one in the flesh before I order mine and commit to this colour scheme.

Blooming miles away. Typical. I had a blast in a black one yesterday up near me. Specced one up and want a different colour but want to ensure it's not too much.

Thought the M4 was fantastic and had a good run over the moors near me at a fair old pace. Certainly a step on from my E92 coupe M3

Cooper has a car I liked in stock at another dealer that was about 50 miles away, they arranged for it to be sent down so I could have a look at it to a nearer Coopers. Might be worth asking. If you're anywhere near Kent/Essex I may be interested in having a quick look as well, I'd really love to see a SO in the flesh (of any M car)

I had a look around a white M4 today for the first time at Listers Boston and I have to be honest I was left a little disappointed by it and I think it might have been the colour that let it down, when I bought my old E92 M3 I specifically wanted a white one as I thought it suited the shape but I do think now that some of the more lairy colours must work better on the M4.

For me it just looked too discreet and didn't look like a 60k motor in that colour...I will have to see some of the other colours in the metal to see the difference I think and from the front in pictures I thought the M4 looked really aggressive but in real life I didn't get that feeling so it must just be the colour.

We had to go there from Notts to see a Sakhir in the metal as it was the nearest.
Sopers in Lincoln have a Sakhir M3 but it wasn't there when we could go.

The wife wasn't keen - she was hoping for it to be ORANGE, not orange.... trades description act, she said laugh
Anyway, it seems we're going for the Yas Marina.
