Surely the history can't be that decent if the single biggest item has not been documented? smile

Obvious sign is a yellow/red warning light... and check the iDrive for any warnings.

When driving make sure the clutch engages properly and there's no jerkiness (provided you don't have a lead right foot). Drive in manual mode all the time and not auto because it's just crap. Remember it's a manual box so it should feel like one.

Mine had no paper evidence of clutch but I rang the BMW dealer who renewed it under warranty to confirm when it was changed, they told me what was changed and when but wouldn't issue any paper work. I think you'll find most cars that have been through the main dealer network as used cars have no receipts only service book.

Will judder when pulling away if their are issues and check for slipping when giving it some.

Can't you confirm with the previous owner or garage etc when the clutch was renewed ?

Ok

See how it pulls away from 1st gear in P400 mode

See how it accelerates from 4th gear at 30mph. Do not down change. If it hesitates or drags you may have a problem

Best test for me is with cruise control. At 50 mph in 7th gear adjust the cruise control to 55mph. If it is not pulling right or dragging along it could be a clutch position sensor problem.

Mine has all these problems and will be rectified as soon as i have more than a few days off work. I know how to drive around these issues as well so they never bother me. Other than that mine changes gears etc absolutely fine so I know it is not the SMG pump etc.

happy viewing!

Take it to another dealer or independant repair and have the codes read out from the SMG. This will tell you more than anything else possibly could. Every single fault that occurs on the SMG is logged.

Now, that' not to say that the dealership wouldn't clear out the error codes on a car that's for sale...
