Called into my local dealer this morning for them to look into the issue with my headlamps (long story but basically the beams are dazzling oncoming traffic). They as expected placed my key into the code reader & an urgent advisory was picked up.

It refers to a retrofit required & the detail is:

"Retrofit heat protection mat of refrigerated lines". All i could pick up from the dealer is these lines are very close to something that gets very hot & thus they could melt/tear/fail & thus a heat protection mat needs fitting.

The dealer stated it was not & would not become a product recall but was best to get it done ASAP so i'm booked in this Friday. They couldn't confirm which MY's it relates to but i'd hazard a guess it's all of them.

Mine booked in next week to have wheels swapped to winters and check which recall is required, they say depending on what they find there are two fixes, one quite quick and one where they will require the car for two days.

Depends on whether they find signs of a leak....

I received a letter about this issue from the dealer (2015 MY F13 M6) and it was applied while the car was in with trim rattle issues. Not sure how long it took as I left the car with them for a week while at a conference in the US.

had mine done a few weeks back, it looks like small clip on sleeves 4 inch long on the piping under the black engine cover. 5 minute fit by the look of it.

thats all. Also had the fix to cure the car of the ticking whilst turning. Time will tell if its cured.

Any chance you could post a photo of the letter?

I reckon it's pot luck if you get notified by a dealer of such work required. Let's be honest now, car dealers are not the most reactive people in the world so i reckon you'd be one of the lucky few to get a letter as it's not a product recall. I've had no letter, only found out about it as a dealer scanned my key whilst checking if their was a code showing for my dodgy headlamps & that brought up the Advisory.

This is why i posted on here to alert the masses who wouldn't realise until their car was in for maintenance that the Advisory was present.

I emailed the dealer about this, and this was his response:

"Its not a recall its something that will be carried out the next time your car is booked in to workshop for anything .

0011450300 - BMW (UK) - Quality Enhancement - Retrofit heat
protection mat to coolant lines - F06 F10 F12 F13 with S63T"

That's the fella. The dealer was very clear in saying it 'WASN'T' a recall & that it's known as a Product Advisory &/or Technical Campaign.

To be honest & although i can only see the fitted item/s when crouched down looking, it looks a right mess & more like some Doris in the Salon with foils in her hair having highlights. No idea what the effective nature of the enhancement is but it looks like a very cheap fix to me.
