Been driving the same car now 7.5 years.... B7 RS4 since new. Considered changing a few times over the years but nothing ever convinced me to give up the RS4 which has been a great car tbh.

So, I think it's probably finally time now to move on(something new or nearly new). First port of call for me is Audi but nothing is that appealing atm. RS5 is a 7 year old shape and prices or new/nearly are very high, can't justify a change to the new RS4 and the RS6 and RS7 are still a bit pricey for me.

Would have had a Macan Turbo but not willing to pay premiums or wait....

So the..... the M4. Have to be honest in saying that BMW styling has never appealed to me but new M4 looks the business so seriously considering jumping ship. Prices of nearly new low mileage m4's seem very reasonable(more so than the nearly new RS5's), a lot available in the low 50's and some now starting high 40's.

Before I start visiting dealers etc wanted to know what discounts are available on new cars, if any? I wouldn't pay list for one given the prices of the nearly new ones but if there's decent discounts to be had I'd prefer to spec my own car. A lot of the UK cars I've seen don't seem to have the Full Leather(on the dash etc) which would be the first option I'd tick, it's not a deal breaker though.

And since it's been a long time since I bought a new car, I'm sure finance deals have moved on. I got the RS4 on a balanced payments deal borrowing 25k through RBS asset finance but I dunno what the best option is now. I'd have a similar deposit, 25-30k. I have no idea how long I'll keep the car and wouldn't want to be penalised for ending early or feel like I'd have to stick with the same franchise/brand when the time comes to change.

Any advice?

cheers

I've also been looking at new M4's and both dealers I've spoken to won't budge on price. Peter Vardy are doing £3000 off list which is the best I've seen. Is there any news on a new RS5 being released soon?

I feel they aren't worth 60k with a few options but can't find anything else that I fancy for similiar money. Even 2012 Carrera's are more than 60k

An M6 is similar money (£60k and falling) and so much more car. You can always negotiate a 2 year warranty on them too.

I know where my money would go.

I agree as I was looking at the M6 previously due to the 0% interest and massive contributions. I just feel its too big and at 33 feel it's more of an older gentlemans vehicle smile. If anything id rather the M4 was a tad smaller.

If you want a smaller/lighter/cheaper car you could wait for the M2.

I am only 28 and have an M6. It is all down to personal preference and perspective I guess really.

To me, the higher end M cars are 'I have made it' cars and to me it was on my bucket list before I hit my 30s and, finances permitting, moved onto other stuff like GT-Rs, Ferraris etc.

Test drive it first to see if you can live without the fab RS4 sound. The M4 is very muted and slightly artificial.

Also consider that you will struggle to get the power down a lot of the time in comparison to the RS4's 4wd usability.

Why on earth would you get shot of an RS4 for an M4?!

An M5 I'd get, but an M4??

Don't do it, just don't!!

To be fair the M5 is cheaper to lease.....

Current deals on offer are;

M4 - 48 months Dep. £5k Monthly cost £830 (7.9%)

M5 - 48 months Dep. £5k Monthly cost £699 (0%)

Both on 8,000 miles a year

or you can get the M5 with smaller Dep. £870 for £870/mth with 10k miles pa, same deal on M4 and price is £946/mth

Agree it's a great car and great value for money but not everybody wants a big saloon (I didn't).

Agree the costs are similar - my dealer was offering great deals on M5's but hardly budged on my M4.

But I didn't want or need such a big car especially as the performance is for all practical purposes the same.

Definitely worth the OP considering both if he's ok with the size/styling of the M5 which he might not be as he's so keen on how the M4 looks.
