It's not just BMW. My old Holden killed it's battery every few years till I put a battery maintainer on it whilst parked in the garage. The same unit will be going onto the M6 when it arrives Wednesday just to keep on top of the battery whilst it's left during the week.

I've connected a battery tender to my cars for years. My usage pattern means that it's quite common for it to be sitting for 3 weeks without use and BMWs haven't liked that for a long time.

Not had a problem (so far) leaving mine 2 weeks at a time in the Garage.
Just got back from holiday after 17 days, it started no problems.
