There are more and more rumours claiming that BMW will reveal a F80 M3 Touring at the Frankfurt Auto show in September.

And yet no published spy pics of it testing etc....I doubt they are building it, maybe they are but who will buy it in sufficient numbers for it to make sense?

Everyone thinks the E61 M5 is cool these days but hardly anyone ponied up the cash when new.

The US doesn't even get BMW estates never mind M ones and China wants limos and SUVs.

That looks great, better than the coupe/saloon.
X-drive version ? Or maybe that get complicated...

Xdrive in an M car would be rubbish if it was the same system as the 3 series, push, pull, push, pull a bit more not nice.

If they could do one like the 991 911 then fine as that's brilliant and doesn't feel AWD.

As I thought:

I don't get the "market is too small" argument. X6M? X4? 5 series GT?

The X6M and X5M sell in big numbers in the US small SUV/crossovers like the X4 do as well, the market isn't just the UK.

They sell more X5/6M globally than they do M3/4s.

PH is funny, one minute the modern M cars are not hardcore enough. Now people want a AWD estate version!! laugh

Try the Audi RS range if you want a heavy understeery fast estate car.

That's the point : if you make a fast, heavy, refined, torquey cruiser you may as well go the whole hog and give it a practical boot.
