After a number of AMGs and an XFR, I have recently ordered a 2015 F10 M5. I tested everything but in the end, the M5 was the one... It is Monte Carlo Blue with a Silverstone leather interior with most of the options... It also has the competition pack which means a better exhaust sound. Compared to any AMG, the standard car is nowhere....

Anyway, it arrives tomorrow. Can't wait...

Dont. Dynamically they are way ahead. AMGs sound better though...

To you maybe but to me I like the fact that the M doesn't make a racket. AMGs have become too 'look at me' of late.

AMGs don't make a racket, and the noise they do make isn't faked.

Interesting to hear the OP saying the M is dynamically ahead, I'll be test driving one myself soon.

Pictures when you get it. WRT AMG's, yes they do sound nice but too many people owning them now like to make too much racket to often IMHO. That or I am getting old! We all know they sound cool but do we need to here it at every single opportunity... probably not.
My M6 is not a patch sound wise but performance and handling.... no contest from the AMGs I drove. The BMW interiors seem more upmarket as well now, especially the seats as the AMG items look like leather clad E320cdi units.

It's just a reflection of UK mindsets unfortunately. I just drove mine to Berlin and it would seem they are positively revered over here - it has had loads of attention.

I'm not sure how I can bring myself to return to UK driving after smashing 400 miles of autobahn yesterday afternoon.

Never, ever, come across any image problem. Plenty in past BMWs and Porches, never an AMG.

IIRC the e63 doesn't even come with an LSD, 550+ hp with one wheel drive.

I think it's an option but not many have them or didn't seem to when I was looking.

If you refer to the E63 AMG then yes, no LSD as standard. The one to go for is the E63 pp - 557 bhp, LSD and delimited.

Yes that's why I said the e63....that's the older ones though isn't it? The demo's I looked at were either standard with 557hp or the S with 585hp The PP kit hasn't been available for a while.

I was looking at new/demo models earlier this year rather than the older ones, the LSD was 2.5k which is silly on a 75k car.

Ah O.K., yes. I'm looking at a '13 model and saving a bit of cash over the '15. If you're going for the facelift then I think an S is the only option. Have to say in the '10 E63 I've been driving for the last couple of years I've not missed an LSD. If I could stretch I'd go for an S and tune it. Easy to get over 660 bhp with mods...but I'll do the same with a '12/'13 model. From what I understand they respond better than the M5 to serious tuning.

Pretty much every video online of a C63 involves them being driven like kn0bs. I now associate AMGs with having loud shouty engines being driven badly.

I know a bog std M5 with remap is dyno proven @ 748bhp and almost 700lb/ft - I think the AMG may struggle to beat that.

My car can't put the 560hp it's got on to the road, I really do wonder what people do with more power! I actually find the lack of traction in 2nd gear annoying as you know it's there but it will not grip.

I'm not looking anymore as went a got an the M5 over the e63 in March.

In my humble and limited experience, when you sit in an M car there are lots of visual clues to tell you are in something a step above the rest of the range; leather, logos, dials, buttons, gear lever etc.

However when you are in an AMG you have to look much harder for the clues.

To some this is not important but to others it can be.
