I have owned my E61 for a year now and it had a majour service when I picked it up.

I have only covered 7k in 12 months and I drive is telling me that the oil is not due for 8k.

I always service my cars yearly regardless. what is the schedule for these cars?, wait for I drive to throw a service?

Car is under mondial warranty so important it's done as per schedule.

That all sounds correct. But no harm in changing the oil and filter halfway through the factory recommended interval.

So the factory interval is when the I drive tells you?

Yes, it's condition based servicing. Factors in use profile, number of cold starts, your star sign, phase of the moon, etc. It's not a fixed time or distance. I would guess that if you used the car 100 miles on one day every month you could go years without an oil change.

Personally I would always service an M5 yearly, if not twice yearly depending on mileage (I service every 6,000 miles) as potential M5 owners could be a bit funny about a service being carried out every two years.

It will be serviced every year, just wanted to make sure I understood how the schedule worked.

Every 3rd oil service you change diff oil,SMG oil and engine oil. If you read the service book it will explain this bit this will not come up on the I drive, it will just say 'oil service due'

Not sure where you are in the country but I took mine to Stephen James BMW dealer Ruxley Bromley Kent for its service and then got invited to a free trackday at Brands Hatch which was fantastic. They had Tom Chilton doing free passenger rides in a F80 M3 also plus open pit all day for me. They said they are planning to hold one of these events every year for their M power customers, whether they will hold another one I don't know but it was a nice surprise when I got the invite in the post. Might be worth using them if you are in the South East.
