M5 F10 winter prices

Do prices plummet in winter - seem to have done - must be the 560 BHP rear wheel drive vs snow challenge?

Will they rise again slightly in spring?

I was going to sell in October but couldn't part with her. Was being offered £41plus from the trade to retail at £45-£46 and I thought residuals would be pretty good - what else do you buy as a daily driver?

Couldn't part with her so been dragging my feet, and it now looks like retail prices are circa £42, although some still asking £46 so not sure what market value is.

Now looking at a private sale in order to recover hopefully £40

Am I better waiting and still getting £40 after 3 or 4 months more use?

2013 car so still in warranty with 5 year service pack too so will only cost me fuel to keep her

All advice / experience appreciated :-) do I advertise now or wait until late March??

Think all cars for sale suffer a bit over Xmas period.

Can't see a reason why it won't be worth the same in a few months time, it's not like it's a convertible or something.

Out of interest why are you selling? Interested as I have one on order.

Thanks for the comment - seem to have taken a big tumble in price since temps dropped - spooky as the value for money is hard to beat £40k, manufacturers warranty, 5 year service and 17k miles - what else as an all rounder?

Selling to fund purchase of a weekend toy / sports car.

Already bought a new 90 XS SW as a daily snow / school run car- prices going up!

Looking for a lighter more full on experience again for high days and dry days, or something with more sense of occasion - M5 flies under the radar mostly, appart from its beautiful blue paintwork :-)

M5 has been the best daily driver I've ever had, would definitely have another if funds permit. Hugely fast for a 5 seater bus, fun / playful and as comfortable (and as big) as my old Rangey.

Won't be the end of the world to still have her in March :-)

Yes that is phenomenal value for money.

I think the drop in prices is seasonal but mainly to do with the fact that most people are preoccupied with other stuff for the next month or two, as opposed to the cold weather being a factor somehow.

So sell now and take a loss, but potentially get a bargain on whatever you're after or I guess it will hold its value until spring, but then weekend/special cars tend to rise then too.

I'm coming the other way from an Integra Type R, an event every single drive, but a bit uncompromising for a daily. Looking forward to having some rear doors for the kids, some comfort for my aching bones and some torques (sic) for the hills!

Thanks - yes most likely to be a Christmas price issue, or perhaps black Friday. :-)

It has been wonderful as a daily, potter in complete comfort and safety, or have a bit of fun, I may miss the lack of flexibility in that respect. Plenty of torque !! Will go up any hill, any gear, any revs - tickover upwards.

Difficult to find the best of all worlds in just one car :-( Integra have an excellent rep and must be good on residuals and great fun if you're in the mood for a blat - but on rainy Thursday travelling to the Lakes up the M6 with the family - not so good?

Anyone else noticed this seasonal price drop at Christmas on F10s then? Man maths required - keep and save money?

I always felt they were long over due a drop to be honest. I think from now and over the next 6 months many of them will drop and then stabilise around 30-33k mark.

obviously I am talking about 2011/2012 models with around 30k odd miles on then.

your one will obviously worth more

I think it will be closer to £35k but agree they'll find a settle point again soon. Still not bad for this type of car to only lose 50% of it's value over 4-5yrs. Yes the physical ££ drop value is significant due it's value, but as a %age of new sale price it holds up well against most other cars.

To be honest I think its excellent, to have such a said car and to lose 50% over 4-5 years rather than 3 or less years is very very good.

And on a similar themes, projecting forward, I am wondering what my car might be worth in a few years. Dec 2011 car, I bought at 3 months old, an ex demo with 1,500 miles on and very highly specced. Kept it longer than any previous daily driver and whilst I keep changing my mind, my current thought is to hang on to it for a few more years. Now 4 years old with 51K it might just be worth £30K. Another 2 years and at say 75K, I am thinking it should be worth more than £20K. Does that sound reasonable?

Providing there are no other major outlays, I am thinking £8-£10K of further depreciation is a couple of years of relatively cheap (and enjoyable) motoring.

Cheapest one on the AUC is 36k for 2011 and the cheapest facelift is 41k they have been around that price for months can't see a seasonal drop not sure why there would be, just the standard depreciation curve.

I just picked up an AUC Nov 13 build in Singapore Grey with CP, HK and a whole heap of other extras for 45k. I thought it was a stunning price for an AUC car. The car is phenomenal. I kept my last M5 for almost 6yrs - by far the longest I've kept a car. I can see this very easily happening again. Such immense value.

The M5 is loosing £12/1500 a month, so hold on tight , prices diving and they ain't going up.
As for being worth 50% in 4.5 years ............... Laughable...... more like 28/30% if your lucky.

Best colour although I may be a bit biased..I've had mine for a year and still love it.

Thanks for the comments about personal experiences and expectations.

In hind sight the depreciation over the last 12 months is relatively low compared to other premium performance cars, let alone other 560 BHP supercars :-), if only I can overrule my heart with my head as she'd be pretty cheap to own over the next 2 years even if a few miles are piled on.

As a guide BMW quote a GFV of 25-26k over 4 years and 10k pa on a 0% APR PCP, so if you bought a new one (you can get them for 65k-67k) depending on a sensible spec, so you'd lose around 800-850 per month on average (more at the start and less at the end)

Based on £800 per month and theoretical purchase figure of £67 for my high spec 2013 should be worth £42,200 now so not far off the mark.

Think I'll see if I can move her on now for £40 and that way I'll have a little more to spend on my next purchase :-)

In my experience I have never (without a fight and good look round) been offered the loss of £800.00/month, it's always been way more than that.
Just for your info. So hunt around for the very best deal you can get.

Had a cursory look at the classifieds and was a little surprised at the seemingly sudden drop. But on the other hand it's also nice to see some 100k+ milers cropping up, there is a 12/12 130k miler up for 30k - assuming 70k purchase price 40k dep'n for 130k miles in 3-3.5 years is pretty good value if you want some decent man maths! Whether it sells at that price is another question, and I hate to think costs in tyres/fuel and probably servicing but the moral of the story is pile the miles on as it seems the F10 doesn't have the E60's rep for drivetrain gremlins etc.
