Keeping Shiny... well Shiny

Hi All

Advice please on what people use on keeping the 4 shiny things sticking out of the back of the car, shiny! M5 F10 in my case, but any shiny things will suffice.

After washing the tail pipes I use a metal polish to remove the soot build up that occurs round the edges of the trims.

Strangely I find Autoglym paint renovator works well on exhaust tips actually better than Autosol (which is still decent).

ETA- i wouldn't use the paint renovator on the actual paintwork it is too aggressive but great on the tips.

I had my F10 exhaust tips powder coated black.

Not an M5 but I use Meguiars Metal Polysh to get the desired finish and then a few layers of Poorboys Wheel Sealant to stop the carbon sticking.

All that is needed thereafter is a quick wipe with a damp microfiber.

I do this maybe every 6 months and they are always gleaming.

I used to spend hours polishing me tips.............

But really can't be bothered now.

Belgom polish tends to last a bit longer than Autosol or Mothers, but I've mainly used it for ali polishing.

Adding a protective coat does make things last a lot longer. I use a carnuba wax on the paint and it also protects metal well.

0000 grade wire wool, if the build up is really bad, use with a good quality metal polish though, comes up a treat.

It works well for me.

Here are some Rogue Diablo backboxes I bought 2nd hand of eBay.

I degreased them with normal car shampoo, took the tar spots off with clay bar, polished with Meguiars and sealed with wheel sealant.

9 months later and they still look as good.

That is a good point. I am fortunate that I can walk to work so this is only used for weekend and fun use.
