Pulled out today and blatted past a small queue of cars on the A24 just past Washington this morning to be greated with a smiling policewoman and a speed gun. Blue lights and pulled over shortly after frown

Problem is as we know the M5 can gather speed so quickly and I was clocked at 94mph on a 70mph dual carriageway after no more than 150 yards or so (it was dry and I was playing wink )

She was very pleasant and I had no reason to be other than polite and accept 'I've been nicked'. Apparently I'll get a fine and 3 points. We discussed skiing, fast cars and she said sorry several times for stopping me simply because of my 'nice' attitude.

Ah well, I know it's very, very easy to push on a bit very quickly in these beasts and I'll slow down now.

Now the better weather is almost here, be careful out there!

The cops always tell you it'll be three points on your license. It prevents punters going ape at the side of the highway.

24mph over the limit is a big chunk into the red. You'll be likely to get six points from the magistrates. Sorry, mate.

Sorry to hear that fella.

I often think in this car I'm riding my luck somewhat as silly numbers clock up on the speedo so damn quickly.

Looking on the web it appears 96 is the threshold to go to court unless there are any other circumstances to be taken into account (dangerous driving for example), so I'm hoping for 3 points.

Bugger all I can do about it now other than reflect on my mistake!

Thanks all and a I'll keep you informed.

You didn't try this then? wink

I always put Waze on when driving, even if I know where I'm going. The reported police cars are generally quite accurate.

No, I'm not quite as good looking as either of those two!

I'll think about Waze, I have it but never use it.....might start to now however!

I think we're all on borrowed time with these cars. I just used up my speed awareness course card getting clocked at 57 in a 50 in a bloody motorway SPECS, which is the last place anyone with a brain should ever be caught. However, I sail close to the wind in SPECS and on that particular morning I had extra weight on my mind.

If it's any consolation think of the fact that you brightened up the morning of everyone you overtook. One minute they were thinking "look at that " and the next they were laughing their tits off hehe

Hard luck on getting stopped.

I used to commute up and down the A24 - Portsmouth - to Crawley - 4 years and miles and miles and a cr@p car to boot.

As soon as I knew I was leaving and handed in my notice I went out a replaced my rotter of a commute car for an e90 330i - not the worlds greatest car but I have my dream car (E36 M3 Evo) already. My final day at work I decided to take the 330i in as a bit of an "up-yours" - I hated the place I worked at - a spirited drive home and I got pulled by an unmarked car at 85 mph!

Anyways - pull over thinking nuts - sods law and all of that. Bang to rights I was speeding, but the A24 is a pretty fast road anyways. I got out and basically held my hands up and apologised outright, no arguments or disagreements. I did then go on to tell the story - 4 years no issues at all and my final day, I bring my "nice" car as a treat and whoops - anyways thankfully he told me not to worry and just said be a little more careful.

To be fair I was a lucky boy and with my new commute being so close to home I rarely get above 60 now - there no point its only 20mins down the road unlike the 2 hours I used to face!

Good luck with the verdict.

What did she put down as your speed though? I've had a copper 'round the speed down' before to keep it at 3 points & £60 (as it used to be). Feels a bit odd thanking a copper for handing you 3 points & a £60 fine but better than the alternative biggrin

I fear it's only a matter of time before that dreaded brown envelope lands on my doorstep (again).

The new "Smart Motorway" on the M1 between Wakefield / Sheffield and Nottingham is littered with HADECS 3 cameras and seemingly random variable speed limits so my hopes aren't high. frown

A couple of weeks ago I travelled northbound, 6pm on a Friday evening in heavy traffic, no reduced speed limits. Returned southbound at 9:30pm (almost empty motorway)...60mph speed limit! banghead
