Thinking of selling my E46 M3 vert which I've owned for nearly 4 years as the mileage is creeping up to 91k and buying a Merc E350cdi coupe which would be remapped to 300bhp.

Not sure whether Im ready to sell the M3 as its been a great car, however also have some Superbikes and a 997.2 turbo for weekend use etc.

Anyone else done a similar move, also any idea on the value of the M3?

2005 manual M3 in carbon black with red leather, satnav, TV with DVD player, hardtop full service history all BMW apart from 2 Indy. Coliovers, carbon fibre interior trim, short shift, CSL reps along with original alloys.

I've just come out of a Merc E350 coupe into an M3 (albeit an E92).

If you a looking for a nice, relaxing but quite dull car, then the Merc is fine. I always found the auto gearbox quite slow and frustrating, although the car had a reasonable amount of speed (mine was standard 231 bhp model).

Totally different car to the M3 obviously, I am very pleased to get out of the Merc and back into a proper drivers car!

I wouldn't want to buy another Diesel car. I don't think it's a secret that the government will start to price privately owned ones off of the road via VED charges, and later down the line probably fuel prices too.

How are you finding the MPG after the E350?

If you're seriously considering this based purely on mileage, to what extent are you skimping on maintenance?

Short of crashing it (or tin worm), it will be fine for another 50k+

If, on the other hand, you now need braces to keep your trousers up - rather than a belt - the Mercedes Oil Burner is the car for you. smile

HTH...

Not really sure what your objective is however my M3 gets serviced by BMW and as your aware from your previous post the inspection1 is £699 and inspection 2 is £899. With £159 oil changes in between.

Skimping on servicing............. I don't think so!!

The car will be fine for another 200k, hence don't understand your comment.

I've also got 2 Supercars and a number of Superbikes and again don't get your comment regarding belt and braces.

Maybe in future stick to the 330i and Jag section, was looking for some constructive comments and suggestions not bks

I sold my E46 M3 for a 1 series derv and have regretted it ever since. I've since owned another couple of cars trying to find what the E46 M3 had, but they fail to cover everything as comprehensively as the E46 M3 did.

My advice would be to spend what you would lose in changing cars on the M3 and enjoy it!

As expected the MPG isn't great in the M3, but I've previously owned 911's and an RS4 so no stranger to petrol stations. Have averaged 20mpg so far in M3 (according to computer) average in the Merc over 18k miles was 32mpg (again according to computer).

More annoying is the small range in the M3, filling up every 250 miles or so, just wish the tank was a bit bigger.

After a few days reflecting, I think Im going to keep the M3.

Nothing else needs doing to the car apart from an inspection 2 in the next month or so, I've spent a fortune on mods. Brembo BBK with 6 pots on the front and 4 pots on the rear, CSL wheels, CSL diffuser, 40% Autosolutions short shift kit, Coliovers and refresh of bushings, carbon fibre on all interior pannels, Eisemann LeMans sports/race exhaust.

The car handles superb, it now stops and sounds great.

Thanks guys for all the responses and comments.
