E90 m3 running in service - 2300 miles
Discussion
Hi,
I am considering a second hand E90 m3. The running in service was done at approx 2300miles & car has just under 10k on it now.
Garage have had this clarified with BMW that this has not affected warranty etc, will have a letter faxed to me later today.
What is your opinion on this?
Thanks in advance
James

Only 700 miles over, is it that serious??
I thought the running in service on these should be at 1,200 miles, which would put it 1,100 miles over.Regardless of that, it tells you something about the owner, and how much he's cared for the car.
Do you really want to buy a car like an M3 from someone who can't even be bothered to get what is regarded as a vital service done on time.
Hi,
This is my first post.
I to am considering a used E90 M3 which was first registered 04 Nov 2009. The running in service was carried out @ 2088 on 19/01/10 and the next one @ 22428 on 22/11/11 both by David Prentice Cars Ltd (BMW). I am a little concerned that the first service was carried out a bit late and that the second one after another 20+k. I thought that the E90 (although variable) usually required a service after every 15k miles. The car is currently @ 34381 miles.
I would appreciate any advice that may be out there.
Cheers

I too have seen some E90 M3's with rather dubious service history can anyone clarify exactly what the service intervals are?
Running in at 1200. In my case my Sept 09 car also had oil and filter changes at 12.7K and 25.7K miles. The latter being around 3K earlier than required by the OBC for other reasons. All service requirements are condition based although I "think" there is a 2 year limit on some service items regardless of mileage/use.

I can't recall off the top of my head but 15K sounds like the max figure, it might be less. Given the high-revving nature of the S65, I change the oil annually regardless, approx every 4,000 miles. This is my first post.

I would walk away from any car that hasn't been looked after properly. Have you looked at forums? IMO much better to buy a car privately and understand how it's been looked after and driven.
The car above should also have had a brake fluid service recorded. Also worth checking is what was done at the running-in service. Some dealers not changing LSD oil or gearbox oil on manual cars! Also, the 3rd oil service requires the diff and gearbox oil to be changed again plus spark plugs and therefore it is much more expensive than the oil service number 2 (air filter and cabin filters should have been changed) and no. 4.
