How do you know for sure a Mk 2.5 MX-5 S-VT is an S-VT apart from the wheels, steering wheel and strut brace. Is there any way to identify one through the VIN?

Got no idea about that, but mines a S-VT and I have a 6 speed gear box, and so does my friends.

There must be a list of what models has what, somewhere!

6-speed gearbox. Heated leather seats. Front fog lights.
The sticker in the door probably says S-VT or Sport too.

If you're desperate, I'll pop out and have a look at ours.

But basically, 6 speed box, heated leather seats and front fogs is a pretty good telltale.

Well a 2001 model could certainly be a Mk2.5 (I've seen an import on an 'X' plate).
If it's marked S-VT it should have those bits and pieces though, how odd!

If it's got variable timing, won't it have the variable timing thing (like a wart I suppose!) on the front offside of the cam cover..?

If it's a 2001 1.8 it will have variable valve timing, all Mk2.5 1.8s do.

the log book for mine says 1.8 S-VT Sport.

Aye, it must be just a 1.8i as such then.

Cheers
