Windows down before roof up?
Discussion
You'll have trouble putting the top back up with the doors shut and the windows up as the window seals will be in the way but there is no need to do anything when dropping the top. I think the BMW does that due to the design of the window seals (my Mrs Mini Convertible does the same).
The more interesting question is whether you should lower the windows or open the doors before putting the top up

Am I missing something or wasn't that my question?

Exactly what I was thinking Mark

FWIW, I always ensure the windows are slightly lowered before raising my roof (windows always put down with the roof - when raising it, raise windows 10cm lower than top, raise roof, topup windows) as I think it works best with the MX.

I drop both windows a touch for putting the roof up and down.
Just makes it easier and less force on the catches.
Yep, I'm gonna do this from now on. The reason I started this thread, yesterday I put my roof up and when I was pulling the catches there felt more resistance than usual, then I realized my windows were up. Which made me think of the BMW.Just makes it easier and less force on the catches.

I also then open the door, put the window up and then close the door.. Stops the seals rolling up when the window closes.
It's just good practice, and puts less stress on the seals.
if i'm in a car park, i'll open the doors.
if i'm on the road, i'll lower the windows.
i think the windows seem to make a better seal when you don't force them up into the rubber seal, and they possibly don't go all the way up (i've stuffed my seals with foam as they were a bit soft before and made loads of wind noise)
