Afternoon all,

I'm considering a mk3.5 sport-tech (6 speed) as a daily driver. Mazfa claim mid 30's mpg on the combined cycle. Is this accurate?

My daily commute is 40 miles (20 each way) with an average speed of around 40mph.

Thanks.

I was getting around 34mpg. It was getting better as the miles went on. That was A-B road commute with national speed limits. If you keep it to legal speeds you should easily see mid 30's or higher.

My dad is averaging 32ish I think with his, most of it's use is 40mph ish commute to work (for a couple of days a week) and then a bit of a thrashing at the weekend.
Driven with a light foot it certainly is pretty economical... certainly vastly better than my Mk2.5!

I've only got the 1.8 mk3.5, and day to day I'm getting about 31mpg, that's with a 15 mile commute which is about 50:50 dual carriageway/stop start. Although I have seen 35mpg on a run. That is with 2000 miles on the clock, hopefully it will get better an the engine loosens up a bit.

I have Mk3 2.0 Sport, so in theory a little less economical than the 3.5 sport tech.

When I used it as a daily for a shortwhile around a year ago I was averaging around 30mpg, some tanks were about 28mpg and some up around 32mpg, just depends how I drove it, but it was difficult to avoid winding it up to the redline on a regular basis (and I am a fairly steady driver realy) it just wills you on.

Recently went to a wedding 200odd miles away and we used the '5. As we just wanted to relax we cruised there at 60-70mph and back the same, admittedly hood down all the way. It managed a heady 39mpg on that trip lol.

Good Evening,

I've noticed the mpg of my 2009 Sport Tech has improved with the miles, I'm now at 29,000 and I'm averaging around 32mpg, although my commute is only 10 miles each way.

The best I've seen was on a 40 mile run, a real mix of town, A roads, dual carriageways and a little bit on the motorway - mainly going with the flow of late afternoon traffic - 43mpg.

And on longer runs, such as trips to Italy and the Czech Republic I usually average around 37mpg.

I wouldn't say I'm a particularly slow driver and certainly enjoy a spirited drive over the Alps, around the Nurburgring or along the Autobahn.
