It's that time of year again. Who people using these days? My renewal from A-Plan is quite a bit more than last year cost me frown

I'm with Flux, they were great.
Worth trying Sky Insurance as well (they offer a discount for MX-5 Nutz members).

Footman James - Classic policy with 5,000 mile limit = £189

More than happy with that.

For me that would mean £380 as 5000 miles would last me no more than 6 months. My 12 month policy through whoever AON use now is only a little over £400 with all mods declared and no mileage limit. I'm 44 which helps a bit.

REIS for me. would recommend them - freindly and cheap, and sensible about modifications, plus they offer cheap track day cover if thats your thing

Try Peter James. I have the Vitesse & the Eunos on the same policy, myself & the missus & it only costs Me a paltry £102 fully comp, unlimited mileage too! I'm 38 though and I do have another daily hack.

Think they insure cars over 20 on a classic policy (the Eunos is an '89. They do insist they are garaged as well I think.

PS - The Vitesse & the missus are both the same age....hehe

It was my insurance renewal which made me consider selling my mint Eunos...

Stuck out a tentative 'might sell' post on a forum and it was snapped up within 15 seconds! (although still awaiting actual collection)

It was not so much wanting to sell or indeed the premium which prompted the sale, more the realisation that I was paying for something to sit in the garage largely unused

Competition Car Insurance. £300 fully comp including cover for 5 trackdays (big excess though). The best bit is that i'm free to mod it as much as i like up to 175bhp with no charge.

A Plan upped my renewal this year as well, however, I've always been able to play them off against Flux and get them to reduce the price a fair bit.

Ended up sticking it on a multicar policy with Admiral as my other car was already insured with them and they offered to mirror my full NCD as I only had 1 year NCD on the MX5. That brought the premium down a lot.

And did you know it is cheaper to insure a car if it is parked on the driveway than if it is parked in the garage. £50 cheaper in my case redface

Yep. My guess on why is, if it's in the garage someone can work at stealing it in privacy. You may also not realise it's gone for a day or two if you don't use it every day. And you are more likely to damage it by knocking something off a shelf and it hitting the car. Imagine knocking a tin of paint over and it falling into the car with the roof off...slop... yikes Or scratching a set of ladders right down the side trying to stash them against the wall.

On the drive it's just subject to footballs, cats, postmen, next doors kid on their bike, and really bad drivers..... so possibly it's just the being stolen thing.

I recommend 2Gether Insurance. Did me a great deal on my Eunos Roadster, 3000 miles, cosy little garage in the cotswolds.

I didn't say anything about sticking to 3,000 miles lol. Apparently it's an extra £40 to top up to 5,000 though so not too fussed

I do less than 3k miles in mine. It sits at home 2 days per week, sits at the station car park 3 days per week and doesn't have enough seats to fit the kids in at weekends

I can't get a classic policy because I park it at the train station 3 days per week.

And they need to sort their website out. Loads of code visible:

Haha. I told the insurance company that I was going to keep the car on the drive as I didn't want to stump up the extra £50 they were going to charge me to put it in the garage, and received my policy documents today.

But I'm getting fed up having with the condensation in the mornings, and soon will have to scrape ice off the car, so I decided to phone them and tell them I am going to be putting it in the garage now instead of keeping it on the driveway.

They have updated my policy, but aren't going to charge me any more. Result, and something worth considering to save yourself a bit of money when you come to renew
