Just after some advice guys. Im looking for a short shift kit for my Nb. And came across this http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Mazda-MX5-Miata-90-97-Sh...
I know it says 90-97 but i would have thought they would be interchangeable.
Could anyone shed any more light on the subject? Thanks in advance.

I can't help on whether it will fit but I've never heard from anyone with a short shift that actually likes how it feels. The stock shift is plenty short enough and it just gets clunky if you make it shorter.

dave from planet has one on his mk2.5 - it's the only one i felt that i quite liked but i don't know where he got it. generally as you say tho laz they just make it more clunky and difficult to change gear.

This. I had one on my mk1 (was already on when i bought it) and ended up getting it taken off as it was just too notchy / clunky... but the main thing was, for some reason, it made the gearshifter resonate terribly when you revved it hard.

Waste of money.

Didn't you do some sort of DIY shift-shortening John?

The way to improve the shift I'd to fit a really, really heavy gear knob. The Voodoo CNC jobbie I have works wonders for the shift, same throw but the weight and shape helps no end.

I've tried a few short shift fitted cars and they don't improve things.

yep, i seperated the gearstick (it's in two bits) cut the bottom down an inch or so and stuck the top back on. because you don't raise the fulcrum like a lot of the aftermarket short shifts, it's not clunky, just a little shorter - i really like it smile

I did that on my fiesta when I was 17, Hacksaw mods FTW! laugh
