I'm considering getting a 2.0 Sport in the near future. I believe they come with 157bhp. Is there a way of tuning these?

Yes, if you are willing to spend £5,000 on a supercharger (£4,195 if you DIY).

Otherwise, small gains could probably be had with induction and exhaust etc. Better tyres would probably be the most cost effective way of going faster.

I think it's pretty quick for 160ps. 0-60 is around 7.5/7.8 seconds (depending on who you believe), and it will happily rev all the way to the red line in every gear. I've got lower suspension, upgraded brakes, induction kit and exhaust on mine, and it's pretty perky :-)

The mk3's have the duratec engines. A conversion to throttle bodies and a remap/replacement management should yield around 200bhp.

Roddisons in Sheffield are punting out Mk3's with their own tweaks that are apparently running around 180hp.

Its definitely a more tunable engine than the BP series from the old cars.

I've said it before but If I had a Mk3 I'd be signing up to the forums and researching on all the Ford cars that use the same engine to try and see what could cross over.

2.5 litre duratec with some fabricated engine mounts to lower the engine the required amount 2.0 litre head and sump and an ECU reflash. No-one over here has done it in an mx5 yet as far as i'm aware. You could be first! If it works I could be second!!
