Does it have a security code when disconnected from the power?

Mine is the 2003+ version with amber lighting. I want to permanently install a tape adaptor for my MP3 player i.e. route the wiring inside and out the back rather than trailing around the car.

I have nothing of use in my owners manual and have read conflicting advice on miata.net

Cheers

The 'Disc In' light will be illuminated when the ignition is off, if the unit has a security code.
After a quick bit of googling, several of the links I found when searching for the same info (when changing my battery)-

I'm sure there was another useful one I found, but I can't find it again, sorry. I think those two cover pretty much everything though. smile

ETA I'm sure the info is the same for all Mk2.5 units as mine is the single CD, no tape model.

Very often, the supplying dealer simply uses the last 4 digits of the car's VIN as the code for the stereo. Worked for me when mine needed entering anyway.

Cheers for the reply.

For completeness I pulled the plug today, literally. I don't have a code, Wahoo!

Now to find out which pin does what on the tape/MD connector smile

No worries chap. thumbup
Do report back what you find, it sounds like an interesting (and cheap!) solution to something I've been mulling over for a while.
Not sure if I just want to bin the double DIN unit, move to a single with a series of gauges (oil temp, proper oil pressure and something else). smile
