So I've jsut added this to my driveway:

Why haven't I owned one sooner?

Bought this from a good mate for a great price. Needs a little engine fettling. There's a puff of oily smoke on the overrun which needs looking in to. Any pointers much appreciated. The passenger window also needs a new mechanism. But this is going to be a great little project.

His new one came with a set of Lexus lights which were put on this one so he could have the standard lights on his.

The rear looked like this:

I was thinking of splitting the cases and spraying the insides satin black to see how they looked but I picked up a standard set of lights so yesterday saw this happen:

Needless to say the Lexus style lights will be on ebay by the end of the day as I think you'll agree the standard look is much better.

These standard lights have had a little mod to allow me to run a fog light in the main unit so the chunky fog attached to the bumper will be going to run a cleaner look.

Other than sorting that and the smoke my plan is to just detail it and drive it. It's a bit grubby at the moment where it's been sat on the drive.

Looks nice. The fog light mod is good, nothing worse than those horrible square lights hanging off the rear bumper. (ok maybe Lexus rear lights wink )

A puff of smoke on the overrun is valve stem seals in my experience.

A complete set of new seals retails for not much less than a good used engine, plus changing engines is a much easier job. That's what I went with when the oil burning became too much.

Looks miles better with the standard lights. Cracking car you've got there, what vspec bits does it have? Bilsteins and LSD? Nardi wheel and knob?

Cheers for the comments.

From a little reading up it is soundling like the valve stem seals. I'm in 2 minds if I should just source another engine or rebuild this one myself. It's been a few years since I rebuilt an engine and I just fancy doing it. Although if the cost is a shed load more than just buying a known good engine it'd be a bit daft I guess.

I'd have loved to have kept the Wats that my mate had on this. They really suited the car. Althought the 15" 3 piece split rim Wats he has would be even nicer although would cost more than I gave him for the car lol.

Has the tan interior bar the seats. The ones that came with the car when my mate bought it were shot. He fitted a pair of black leather seats he had from his previous 5 and they were then swapped out when he bought his current 5. So I'm currently running on cloth seats. No biggy though.

It has the wooden Nardi. Standard plastic gear knob and no wooden handbrake grip. Going to keep an eye out on ebay. Not sure on an lsd. Not pushed it to find out yet lol.
