Anyone know if this is this true?

Someone said:
The peak power output the UK spec 1.6 was 86 kW (115 bhp) at 6,800 rpm, and 136 N·m (100 lbf·ft) of torque at 5,500 rpm but the Jap spec had a 9.4:1 compression ratio and produced 120 hp (90 kW) at 7,100rpm and 100 ft·lbf (136 N·m).

Nope, not true.

the M2 division cars I.e. m-1001, 1002 etc had engine work done including raised compression to bump specific output, but 'normal' Eunos Roadsters were identical engine wise to the Mazda MX5
