Hi, im currently on the lookout for a mk1 mx5, preferably a late 1.8 import, but im not fussy as long its not a 90bhp 1.6, ive got a limited budget of around £1k max.

ive just sold my car today, so i need something in the next week really.

if anyone sees anything which looks nice in the swansea/south wales area please let me know or chuck a link on here. im not fussed if the paintwork is a bit rough or it need a little tinkering, as long as the sills are not in need of desperate intention.

any ideas gratefully received.

Does it need to be an import? Found this UK car in Bristol on ebay for £999:

Also found this import in Bristol for a grand:

thanks for those links, there seems to be a few nice ones in bristol area.im gonna look in the local area this week then take a trip up to bristol next weekend.

im not set on an import, just more chance of nice extras on them, and i dont mid going as old as '91(to avoid the short crank problems?)if its in ok nick. I can prob stretch to £1250 so im looking at cars up to around £1.5k.

@hornetrider reach for the stars, and even if you fall short, you'll land on the moon! wink

keep the suggestions coming, im keeping my eyes peeled, often see them advertised on the street.
thanks

Hi, as mr hornetrider said it is really worth spending a bit more and finding a tidy rust free example. There are plenty out there for £750-£1000 but in my experience they are all rough and you will just spend the money anyway getting it right. It took me about 18months to find mine after looking at loads. I think you're right looking for an import as these generally seem to be better. IMO

Good luck

BOOOM! i bought this one in barry. £900 smile

Its done 60k miles which seem to be honest. its been serviced for last 6 years by my old local garage who are right sticklers, i should have been looked after ok.

drove really nicely, just need to pick it up tonight, bit of a daunting drive back on the motorway in the dark and, getting used to the eunos limited viability, esp with cloudy rear window, slow wipers, slow elec windows and the rubbish standard headlights.

feel ive got my pistonhead wings now. lol. gonna try to avoid spending much money on it, at least untill i know im gonna keep it a while. but its very dificult not to look on mx5nuts and want to upgrade stuff... all in good time. smile

thats the one! ill give it a spit and polish at the weekend and take some pics.

it was actually snowing when i viewed the car, brillant timing to undermine a 'vert seller!

he'd only had in a couple of days, still had previous woman owners driving shoes in the trunk! i stuck to my guns haggling and was litterally about to drive away from it, when the dealer came running out waving his arms to stop me, i thought may have accidentally taken his keys, but he puffed out that basicly his son had given him an ear bashing and he'd take the £900. smilelol

That's an S-Spec, so TorSen fitted.

Also the steering wheel is a Nardi Torino, you can pull the cover off to reveal a much nicer looking wheel underneath.

Good buy.

EDIT: also pop the bonnet and pull the trailing edges of the headlamp lids back up. People lean on them and bend them down. They're very malleable so don't worry, just tug up then close the bonnet and push back flush.

Rich. With the Nardi Torino steering wheel, is it just the centre plastic cover that comes off to show the nicer metal detail underneath. I dont suppose theres a nice wooden wheel hidden under the leather rim?!

I havent had a chance to have a really good poke about, but It seems really nice! I'm happy! smile im getting used to being so low on the road! And having no real road presence. Great fun with the top down in the the cold sun today.

It feels a little skittish and bumpy on the corners, but it may just be the knackerd budget tyres.

It was idling low at junctions, so I left it idling for 20 mins this afternoon, and it seems to have sorted it. I think the battery had been flat/disconnected recently.

Its a bit rattly on start up in the old, Gonna get a kwickfit oil change done tomorrow (I can't face doin it in this cold), and look into getting a new rear plastic window from jack smith (who is local), and possibly a new zip, as the toggle has snapped off. No new hood, yet.

Need to secure the battery and make sure its ventalated, it looks very corroded around it. Then I'll change the sparks, and decide what new front tyres to get.

Looking forward to tying it up this weekend!

To be honest i would not trust kwickfit, if its a bit tappety on start up you need some quality oil, perhaps fully synthetic, who knows what kwickfit will use.
